Historically it was Catholic, like the other Spanish colonies.

The 2012 World Almanac has its religious breakdown as 47% Catholic, 11% non-Catholic Christian, 23% nondenominational, and 17% agnostic or atheist.

If categories 2 and 3 are all what usually would be considered Protestants, then it's 34% Protestant. I don't know how reliable the statistics are.
