W.H. 'would not be surprised' if North Korea launches missile
Politico ^ | 4/5/13 | DONOVAN SLACK

White House press secretary Jay Carney said Friday that the administration wouldn't be surprised if North Korea followed through on threats to launch a missle.

"We've obviously seen the reports that North Korea may be making preparations to launch a missile. We're monitoring this situation cclosely, and we would not be surprised to see them take such an action," Carney said during a press briefing.

"We have seen them launch missiles in the past and the United Nations Security Council has repeatedly condemned them as violations of the North’s obligations under numerous Security Council resolutions, and it would fit their current pattern of bellicose, unhelpful and unconstructive rhetoric and actions."

North Korea reportedly has moved missile and launch equipment to its east coast, and the regime asked foreign governments Friday to pull their ambassadors from the country, saying it could not guarantee their safety as of April 10, Reuters reports. The North Korean government signaled war is inevitable because of the "increasing threat from the United States" and cited the joint military exercises the United States is conducting with South Korea, according to the Reuters report.

In my world, I’d launch a missile with a non-nuclear warhead (HE) and fire it so it would land at the NK’s launch site about 10 seconds before their liftoff, then claim that the NK’s had an “explosive malfunction” at their launch - and offer condolences to the survivors.

A couple of such “malfunctions” ought to get the point across.

I was afraid that the commie would give them a thumbs up.

He’ll celebrate privately if Texas gets nuked. He might lose some sleep if California gets nuked. But he’ll be off for a fund-raiser the next day.

Amateurs, one and all. No one with a basic understanding of foreign policy could say something this stupid.

The Rodman trip was ultra bizarre.

My take is it was meant to show the NKs a disgusting representation of America.

We are used to his looks. I imagine the NKs think he is some kind of monster.

New dictator has to show how bad ass he is. He’s gone a step farther than his psycho father. Does he have the stones to actually nuke the South instead of taking a payoff?

I doubt it. This is Saber Rattling Theater

And with their accuracy, 20 miles is probably where it will land.

I grew up next to a SAC base. Trust me, you get used to being a target. There is some comfort knowing you will be ashes when everyone else is bitching about their hair falling out. (AQuote from a friend’s Dad in 1970.)

It is possible that China is using Kim as a proxy to probe Obama's defenses.

China and Iran and the rest of the world will watch carefully to see how Obama (or more likely, Jarrett) responds.

They are testing the administration. Weakness invites attack...so just how weak is Obama. Inquiring minds (like those of Kim Jong-Un, Xi Jinping, and the Iranian Monkey Boy) want to know.

I wonder how all the liberals in Austin would feel if a missile were headed at them and the CIC of the USA deals with it like he did with Benghazi - by going to bed.

New dictator has to show how bad ass he is.

That's exactly right. His closest advisers are telling him that he has to act strong (or at least crazy) to earn the respect of those in the military who would overthrow him if they detect vulnerability.

It's not possible. According to Wikipedia, the USA doesn't have short range ballistic missiles. It used to have a few, but they are all discontinued. Perhaps there are some air-to-ground weapons, but I haven't checked.

You will have to buy 9K720 Iskander from Russia. It has the necessary range, and it can carry a variety of payloads. The speed would be 4,600 mph, so the payload can be delivered from the standoff range in under a minute. This will give you enough reaction time, once you realize that the launch sequence is initiated.

This is a ridiculous situation. Al Queda guys have been droned for less than Fat Boy has done. Sadaam bit it too.

Normally I’m a non-interventionist, but how about some consistency from US foreign and military policy?

I’m even saying at least try to join with the Chinese and Russians, or go alone, to change this regime. Its not a real regime anyway. Then Ddon’t nation build, but let the Chinese have the whole country.

0bamugabe would love to hand the entire region to the North government, just as he asked Mubarak to step down and turn Egypt into Iran. Anything that lessens the number of America-friendly governments.. 0bama is all for it!
