Hillary Clinton: Empowering Women is a ‘core imperative’

NEW YORK-Hillary Clinton delivered a rousing speech on women's rights Friday, insisting that empowering women is a "core imperative" for society if the United States is to enjoy economic success and remain a global leader.

Speaking at the Women in the World Summit organized by Tina Brown, editor-in-chief of Newsweek The Daily Beast, Clinton acknowledged women "have come so far" in areas including politics and in the workplace. But she called gender equality the "unfinished business of the 21st century"-not just in developing countries, but in the U.S., where women continue to be "marginalized" when it comes to access to education and their ability to receive a salary equal to their male peers.

"For many American women, the dream of upward mobility … the American dream remains elusive," Clinton declared. "No country can achieve its full economic potential when women are left out or left behind."

"Women are not victims. We are agents of change. We are drivers of progress," Clinton declared. Clinton's remarks weren't overly political, but her speech came amid speculation about a potential 2016 presidential run. The former first lady made no mention of her political future. But in introducing her, Brown made an oblique reference to the frenzy over whether Clinton will run for president.

"The big question for Hillary now is what's next," Brown said, prompting the crowd of several hundred women in the audience to stand and cheer wildly.

Clinton, who stood next to Brown, laughed and smiled, but she said nothing.

A bumper sticker I once saw on a car in Massachusetts: “Equality to a man? Why lower myself.” Once these hags get power, it is lights out.

Seems to me that long before Mrs First Rapist existed, the United States was a shining example to the world of economic success, and a global leader.

How was that possibe? Did I imagine history?

On the other hand, we can't forget this...

Reminds me of a fascinating quote from a Chinese Com government during the "International Woman's Conference" held in China during the Clinton administration.
The government official said that they studied Hillary's speechmaking method to understand her power and success. They concluded: her trick was never actually to make any arguments -- just state conclusions that were all already accepted as self-evident by her audience. (They found that interesting and perhaps admirable, and to be emulated).

Un fortunately, all the demagoguic candidates seem to have picked up on the theme; the manipulators, the “politicians”, who don’t deserve to be in any office.

“Change” for the hell of it can be, and often is, for the worse, dammit!

"Women are not victims. "

Yea, but you play that card all the time don't you? And the laws treat women as expected victims and men as disposable crap. As long as you have the wussy men on your side.

What if women ruled the world?

Their cycles would synchronize and the world would be pure hell for a week every month?
