Sweeping anti-abortion bill goes to Kansas gov.

Kansas legislators gave final passage to a sweeping anti-abortion measure Friday night, sending Gov. Sam Brownback a bill that declares life begins “at fertilization” while blocking tax breaks for abortion providers and banning abortions performed solely because of the baby’s sex.

The House voted 90-30 for a compromise version of the bill reconciling differences between the two chambers, only hours after the Senate approved it, 28-10. The Republican governor is a strong abortion opponent, and supporters of the measure expect him to sign it into law so that the new restrictions take effect July 1.

In addition to the bans on tax breaks and sex-selection abortions, the bill prohibits abortion providers from being involved in public school sex education classes and spells out in more detail what information doctors must provide to patients seeking abortions. …

I'm a Kansan. I am very conservative. A retired CPA. Brownback is an idiot. He has pushed through a bill that exempts from Kansas income tax business income.

Proprietorship and partnership income is exempt from tax. Wages are taxed.

He is generally conservative, but as far as taxes go, he is as stupid as that Colorado Rep. is about gun control.

Brownback has signed multiple anti-abortion measures into law, and the number of pregnancies terminated in the state has declined 11 percent since he took office in January 2011.

I am confused, though. How is this is different from a personhood bill? If life is defined at fertilization, wouldn't that make abortion illegal? If the unborn child's life begins at fertilization, wouldn't he/she be recognized as a person under the Constitution (maybe not the national Constitution, but Kansas' Constitution)?

I thought Kansas was moving toward no income tax. Why is it stupid to exempt businesses from tax? Won’t that make the environment better for small businesses to set up and create jobs?

How is that fair? I ran a business (accounting practice). My clients would not have appreciated my income being exempt while their wages, salaries, investment income, and rents and royalties were taxed. Silly concept. Income is income.

were you an llc? so your income passed through? what’s the difference, no I am serious, I really want to know. And wouldn’t whatever business it is pass the taxes on to the wage earners, so the wage earners would pay twice anyway? just asking, want to understand

Well, I don’t think most of the politicians ever had econ 101 or finance 101 or accounting 101, and apparently they didn’t do graduate tops in Math either.LOL.

Sorry your Rep is so dumb about fiscal matters. OTH, I was just glad about the restriction of abortion where ever it happens.

Most of my time I operated as a sole proprietor. My wife was one of my employees. I could pay her a salary and deduct it. It saved me self-employment taxes, and I did not have to pay FICA taxes on her pay. I was able to deduct the health Insurance I paid for her (and for me and our children).

After she died, I incorporated my practice, and paid myself a salary. I did have to pay FICA on that, but was still able to deduct my health insurance. Oddly enough, my corporation always broke even, and did not pay any income tax.
