A judge on Friday allowed two Glastonbury men, accused two years ago of sexually assaulting two of their nine adopted boys, to withdraw their no-contest pleas and take their cases to trial.
The unusual action came during what was to be a sentencing hearing for George Harasz and Douglas Wirth, who entered pleas in January to one felony count each of risk of injury to a minor. They agreed to suspended prison sentences. The only issue for Friday’s hearing was to be whether each would be required to register as sex offenders.
But a new allegation of sexual assault against Harasz by one of the victims, contained in a pre-sentence investigation of Harasz, helped scrap the plea agreement. The case was further clouded Friday by disclosure in court of new allegations of abuse by three other of the nine children. No new criminal charges have been filed. …
Initially, Harasz, 49, was charged with two counts of first-degree sexual assault, aggravated first-degree sexual assault, fourth-degree sexual assault, two counts of risk of injury to a minor and cruelty to persons. Look at the sexual registry for your area. I found 600 people in this mostly rural area with 25 miles. When you read the individual cases some occurred decades ago when the perpetrator was 18 and the “victim” was 17. What was legal when they were both 17 is, with the passage of a birthday, now illegal.
When everyone is registered as a sex offender, no one is registered as a sex offender. Can we ever purge the rolls?
Something that most everyone misses is that a number of people on sex and/or violence offenders are put on the list because some bitter person in a divorce case uses that leverage to file complaints because her lawyer tells her doing so will insure she gets custody.
In most cases, the court takes the easy way out placing that status, evidence or not. I was one of those who lost my second amendment rights for a year for something her lawyer dreamed up, she executed, and the police testified on my behalf. After the year, I still had to get an attorney to get off the list.
Now, to the point of this thread, who didn’t see this coming? Especially in Connecticut which is in the heartland of the NAMBLA hierarchy.
Just a reminder. Both presidential candidates supported perverts adopting children.
There is something seriously wrong with any person who would consider this deal for a predator.
PC madness - but exactly the same kind of madness that will now become the NORM just as soon as same-sex “marriage” becomes the law of the land. These predators were allowed to adopt NINE children, far more than any normal couple would have been, and were celebrated by the media as model parents—even as they took away the innocence of one boy after another. Even then, they were about to get away with it, getting a wrist slap (and, presumably, continued custody of “their” children) until a last-minute disclosure of additional charges of rape. Even after all this, it is still possible that the jury in this case will be so blinded by political correctness that it will not believe the testimony of the child victims.
