Annette Funicello, the 1950s and '60s-era Mickey Mouse Club Mouseketeer who went on to star in a variety of beach movies with Frankie Avalon, has died from complications related to multiple sclerosis. She was 70.

Disney confirmed the death on Twitter on Monday, and then released the following statement:

Actress Annette Funicello, long-time Disney and Beach Party star, passed away on Monday April 8 at Mercy Southwest Hospital in Bakersfield, CA, at the age of 70. She died peacefully from complications due to Multiple Sclerosis, a disease she battled for over 25 years. Beloved by television viewers in the 50s for her stint on Disney's original "The Mickey Mouse Club," and by film buffs for her numerous roles in a series of popular teen-oriented movies in the 60s, Funicello became a pop culture icon.

She was purposefully killed by Obama's goons so that the news of her death would overwhelm that of Margaret Thatcher's.

Or that's what I sense when I put on my aluminum hat that blocks out the government rays that are telling me otherwise.

RIP Annette and God bless. Her suffering is over.

I grew up watching Annette and I thank her for the modest and moral way she portrayed herself on screen. Her suffering is over.

She comes from an era when Disney promoted women as role models instead of hookers.

Now, two of my all-time favorite faces are dead . . . Debra Walley, b. 1941 - d. 2001 (could you get any prettier?) . . . and now Annette (just plain pretty)

Too late, science is zeroing in on the cause and treatment of MS, with indications that iron is somehow strongly involved.

An Italian doctor had some success with his theory that MS, at least some varieties of it, was caused by the insufficient drainage of iron from the base of the brain. So he installed some shunts of the type used for hydrocephaly, and had considerable success with some patients.

However, in other patients, there is a shortage of iron in their body and brain, which is helped somewhat by supplements. So research continues.

Her obits say she was a redhead. Yeah, she was in all those lite-weight surfer films along with Annette . . . I don't think I've see a face as lovely as Debra's for a long time. And Annette was no slouch either.
