Well now they are saying there are not enough votes to support a filibuster so who knows.

Idon’t trust either one of our POS RINO senators . They may both vote for it. I sent both of them a warning email. I uge every GA voter to do the same. Neither Chambliss or Isakson can be trusted.

If your theory held, we would have gotten a gun ban similar to 1994. We didn’t.

I also hear that 1968 was much worse than today.

People are starting to appreciate the 2A more than ever.

You might be right. I certainly hope so. But to be clearer I was referring to general trends toward liberal and socialist issues in this country. However I see no reason why the 2A is any different. It’s mainly old people that support it or even know what it is. They will die off. So I stand by my opinion. It’s just a matter of time and the whole amendment is overturned and gone.

“who cares if he has the votes

it won’t pass the house.”

Don't be so sure. This whole Senate wavering of republicans has been - supposedly - orchestrated by McCain. He wants the Senate to pass anything to break the momentum of the TEA Party Senators like Paul, Cruz and Lee. McCain HATES the TEA Party and wants them gone. This is why this is coming to the floor now. The goal is to dump this on the House, and threaten Tammy Fay Boehner into caving lest he deal with with 24/7 news cycle of how the House republicans are “out of touch” with the “rest of the country on “guns”.

You think it won't pass the House? Let me remind you of the math. There are 200 Democrats in the House, and every single one of them will vote for the Senate bill - no matter what it is or what it does. There are 235 Republicans in the House. So all that's needed is for 18 House RINO’s to get wobbly, or be “persuaded” to go along to get along, and vote with the Democrats. They only need 18 to switch their vote. So we'll have the 2nd Amendment hanging on whether Tammy Faye Boehners soul is going to withstand the withering attack the Obama Media will do to him. You go right ahead and have faith Tammy Faye Boehner won't crack. I don't’ have such faith.

Over the last few weeks, I have seen many of my friends on FB and other places post or like posts by others supporting the 2nd Amendment. Many of them have never or rarely posted anything political before. They are all in their mid 20’s to early 30’s.

No offense intended but a conservative’s circle of friends can provide misleading results. Yes all my friends voted for Romney and look - Obama got elected. Good grief how did that happen? :-)

The masses don’t really give a rip as evidenced by the reelection of Obama. The 2A is way down their list of priorities if they even know what it is

These all all random friends from HS and what not. Most have never discussed politics before on FB, but chose to for gun control. A few even voted for Obama, but have recently become pro 2a.

They'd have been better if they were accurate ;-)

CRS - Invoking Cloture in the Senate - March 27, 2013

What has changed in the relationship between cloture and motion to proceed to the consideration isn't the 60 vote threshold, but the rules-based time intervals between invoking cloture and voting on the underlying issue. There is a 30 hour interval (ostensibly the "limited debate time") between invoking cloture and voting on the underlying matter. Now, for motions to proceed, the interval between invoking cloture and voting on the motion to proceed is zero.

An "interval-collapse" change is a non-change, as far as I'm concerned. The Senate OFTEN deviated from the 30 hour rule, substituting a 60 vote threshold on the underlying matter for cloture, of agreeing to have a cloture vote followed immediately by a vote on the underlying issue.

Obviously, something made me think that Reid had removed the supermajority requirement to pass a motion to proceed (that requirement doesn't exist for certain types of bill, already), but according to the linked CRS report, which accounts for the recent cloture rule modification, passing a motion to proceed over objection still requires 60 votes in favor. So, obviously, I wasn't paying close attention.

Maybe that proposal is somewhere in CRS R41342 - Proposals to Change the Operation of Cloture in the Senate - Jan 3, 2013

That second link is a good study for Senate procedure, by the way.

” When Paul staged his first filibuster... we didn’t see it coming. We had no warning and we had no time to mount a campaign of support.

But now that we know what may be coming, we have no excuse not to make our voices heard and help make it happen.”

Good point, I’ll BUMP that!
