Cheney Meets With House Republican Leaders on Korea
Roll Call ^ | 9 Apr 13 | Daniel Newhauser

Former Vice President Dick Cheney told members of House Republican leadership Tuesday to be wary of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in the escalating situation in the Korean Peninsula.

Cheney attended a leadership meeting in the office of Speaker John A. Boehner of Ohio before walking to the office of Majority Whip Kevin McCarthy of California to speak with the GOP whip team. He came at the behest of McCarthy, according to aides and members.

Cheney declined to say what he told the members, saying it was a private meeting. “I’m concerned about it, of course, like I’m sure everyone is,” he said.

Rep. Steve Southerland II, R-Fla., said Cheney warned members not to underestimate the 26-year-old North Korean leader.

“He could have a lot of things up his sleeve, not just military power,” Southerland said. Cheney “emphasized the fact that this is a guy you cannot underestimate . . . because we don’t know anything about him. Our intel on him is sketchy at best. He’s young, so he doesn’t have a track record, and don’t eliminate any possibility of what his intentions are: blackmail, actual use of force or using it as a [bargaining] chip.

“How we handle the North Koreans is on display, so we need to be careful. What we’re doing here is being watched,” Cheney said, according to Southerland. “So he said, ‘You need to make sure you’re setting a precedent,’”

Shame on you for blaming the GOP for the sequester

This is OBAMA’s plan crafted by his WH team

when he proposed it to Boehner in exchange for tax increase (which he got), he fully expected the GOP to save him from his own foolish plan by caving on more taxes and spending

Instead of caving and being blackmailed, they are giving the democrat boy king what he asked for- much to the dismay of his own party

Shame on us if this is what a 2% budget cut (actually a reduced spending) results in

The problem is not lack of money or “budget cuts”, it is lack of our non patriotic Congress and president failing to prioritize govt spending and continuing massive fraud waste and abuse instead of paying the essential bills

Like a drunk who keeps buying booze and complains his kids are starving if you cut his welfare check maybe this is the only way, the first step, to starve the looming $2 TRILLION spending beast known as obamacare

Did anyone really expect Congress to cut any programs that are set up as permanent cash cows for their inner circle(s)?

Ignoring reality and the facts do not do anyone any good. It does not help the nation, it does not help the military, and does not serve the cause of Conservatism.

Obama's OMD Director, Jack Lew, dreamed up Sequestration, but it was the Republicans who not only voted aggressively for it, they agreed with the formula to exempt Entitlements (the largest driver of our debt and deficit), and to inordinately punish the US military with 50% of the cuts, which last 10 years.

Fact: the US military was already cut by $487 Billion over ten years before Sequestration, and those cuts started 2 years ago.

The Republicans knew this then, and they know it now. They simply do not care.

I have no illusion as to who and what Obama and his minions are. He is a Marxist Homosexual who is destroying America in every category: its culture, its economy, its freedoms, and its military.

The Republicans have historically been the adults in the room. They have abdicated that role vis a vis the US military. They have sacrificed it upon the altar of politics.

Back in February, the Service Chiefs were begging (literally) Congress not to do this.

http://www.military.com/daily-news/2013/02/13/military-chiefs-give-warnings-on-sequestration.html

The Senate Armed Services Committee acted like adults, and they acknowledged the wanton destruction Sequestration would cause to the military. The House Armed Services Committee members reaction the very next day was shameful. GOP Congressmen like the obese Rep Bishop and Rep Hunter verbally attacked the Service Chiefs, accused them of lying, and blamed the US military for Sequestration.

Defense was the hostage in the Sequester "game" in Washington DC. Obama gambled that the Republicans would not allow the hostage to be shot. Not only did the Republicans allow that happen, they took the gun from the hostage taker, reloaded, and double tapped some rounds into the knees of the hostage.

The US military is reeling.

Air Force grounding combat aircraft due to spending cuts

Dire sequestration warnings set off debate

80% of Army Brigade Combat Teams will go unready due to Sequestration.

I refuse to label the Republicans as the party of "good guys" when they are the ones piling on the punishment of the US military.

What is happening is that Entitlements (the takers) have robbed this nation, and continue their grabbing spree unabated.

What I pointed out on this board in February was that in a major reversal, it was Obama and the Democrats who wanted to stop Sequestration, and the Republicans (who all during the summer/fall election campaigned spoke the truth about Sequestration devastating the military), did a 180 and decided to spin Sequestration as nothing.

That is Shameful. It is political prostitution, whoring, and wanton wickedness. The Republican leadership has decided to take that road via Sequestration and the betrayal of the military.

You can embrace that. I refuse to.

If the US military is forced to confront Syria, Iran, or North Korea, and we face heavy casualties and tactical defeats, Obama and the Democrats can blame Republicans, and they will be partially correct! I warned everyone of this fact in January.

Now, Obama is proposing a budget that replaces Sequestration, and the Republicans don't want to debate the issue.

The political reality is that a combination of tax and entitlement reform is needed to stop the fiscally destructive path our nation is on. Something akin to the Simpson-Bowles plan must be adopted. If not, the ship will sink even faster.

Shame on us if this is what a 2% budget cut (actually a reduced spending) results in

That is disingenuous spin.

It is not a "2%" cut to the US military.

Sequester Insanity Why the Pentagon budget cuts are far worse than you think

Moreover, here is an article co-written by Rep "Buck" McKeon (R-CA) and Rep Paul Ryan (before he did a 180 and embraced Sequester) that points out the cuts to Defense are 9%.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2012/05/09/military_crippling_sequester_must_be_stopped_114089.html

Due to the time cruch and delay in Sequestration, the cuts to the military are actually 13% this year, and the cuts to Operations and Maintenance are much, much, much higher than that.

The "2%" is Sean Hannity spin. That would only be a truthful figure it the cuts were across the board, to include Entitlements. They are not.

People who argue the "2%" myth are either incapable of simple mathematics, or they do not wish to discuss the actual, factual impacts of what Sequestration does.

“People who argue the “2%” myth are either incapable of simple mathematics, or they do not wish to discuss the actual, factual impacts of what Sequestration does”.

Or they do not want to address how the GOP is to handle the insanely out of control spending of obama and the democrat party

Capitulation to obama’s petulant blackmail to get more tax revenue which he will piss away?

The GOP did attempt to soften sequester by giving obama more flexibility to allocate the cuts- which he refused

This is a man who wants NOTHING except more more money to spread around to his social causes and, to malevolently reduce the wealth of half of all (white) America that he has envied and resented all his life.

If there is to be economic pain and national insecurity caused by obama and his agenda, let it be now and in my time
