Why don’t we put them straight into the factory at birth???

My thought exactly...if 4 years old will save all that money on childcare then public school right from birth will save even more. We'll all be millionaires!

The plan is birth through age 22. Then they’re yours.

It doesn’t sound as outlandish now as it did when I first heard about it, 25 years ago.

This is the old Soviet system, and we’re well on our way.

Parents ceded the issue when they allowed the establishment of government schools and compulsory attendance laws, 150 years ago.

I read that there was some resistance in Barnstable county, Massachusetts, in the 19th century, when the militia was called out. But I can’t find a primary resource.

There was also some resistance to the establishment of high schools in the 1920s, where some schools were burned down.
