The Toomey-Manchin Proposal Will Allow Doctors to Block Your Right to Guns

I just talked to someone familiar with the Toomey-Manchin proposal who raises a serious concern based on his understanding of the legislation.

Everyone on all sides agrees that we need better help for those with mental health problems who need treatment.

Unfortunately, the person I talked with is concerned that the Toomey-Manchin proposal could discourage people from getting help.

The proposal will allow a doctor to add a patient to the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) without ever telling the patient he or she has been added.

There would be no due process requirement. Not all doctors will be able to do it with the same ease, but many will. Knowing a doctor could add him to a federal database as mentally ill without his knowledge could potentially dissuade a patient from going to the doctor in the first place to get help.

Worse, if the doctor does so and makes a mistake, the patient would have to actively work through the system to get himself removed — guilty before being proven innocent. In some states, should a doctor flag you as having mental illness without your knowledge, you may very well see the state come collect your previously purchased guns.

He claims to be pro-life, pro-real marriage, pro-2d amendment, but still belongs to a party that denies Christ, believes in murdering children on demand and believes it's fine for Tom and Dick to get "married". Manchin shouldn't be allowed to get anywhere near a weapon. Withut a doubt this SOB has mental problems. And Toomey should ran out of the GOP. Just another RINO.

I imagine shrinks who actually support this evil power grab will be hurt the worst, and they deserve it, but even pro-gun shrinks will lose business if the petty tyrants undermine doctor-patient confidentiality.

IIRC....all those killers were on some kind of pyscotic drugs administered by their doctors....and as long as they're on drugs, they have to keep going back to that doctor. Clever....

My sister in law finally hopped a plane from NY to California. Her daughter was not doing well. She fired the doctor. Got a new one....who said my niece should have never been given that coctktail of meds. She's doing well now and even working a little. This is not a kid. She's 50. Very sad.

We need to have a form for any new doctor with whom we deal to sign, stating that confidentiality outweighs statist regulations. No signature, no business, and spread the word that said doc is unacceptable.

Toomey is a piece of work. He had conservatives around the country completely fooled about who and what he represented.

At least Arlen Specter was honest about being a liberal.

A reminder to all conservatives: a “fiscal conservative” is not a conservative.

As is often the case, we can thank the ACLU & its cohorts for the problems we have. If those folks who are mentally unstable could be confined to a hospital for treatment, as was the case 40 years ago (give or take) they wouldn’t heve access to guns or innocent victims.

Even relatives who KNOW their loved one needs help can’t get it for them, thanks to the would-be patient’s “right” to refuse treatment. If we, as a society, were allowed to hospitalize the mentally incompetent, keeping guns out of their hands would not have become been an issue.

Close that loophole & you close the door to the gun grab.

Unconstitutional..oh, don't matter to these who are ruling over us. Like I was posting days ago, now a doctor can report on any patient. I guess soon the leftists (who want to control us: tho, the word leftists doesn't seem to be the proper word for them any longer) will be announcing a toll free number so if anyone would like to make a report- a person could be upset (as in expressed something they deem as fishy or that person could know what's in their medical files-big money exchanged in some possibilities) or a political job...whatever, turn the person (s) in. Toomey should be run out of his position. He pretended to be the opposite of sell out Specter. He is a liar and calculated against the very citizens that got him elected. Plus, hurting all of us across the board with this progressive bill. His office should be under protest. The Manchim democratic creep replaced Byrd so well. How bout that W Va. I got into many debates about him to give a warning. Now, don't ever trust him again. They all think after their terms are up, we will forget how they have overreached on their authority. More people are onto them now. Wait until the families see dems using their dead children in 2014 /2016 political ads as they bring in campaign cash.

I think their focus and concerns are / would be deciding who lives or dies. The people they protest to protect will get the shaft in the end from most in the ACLU and portions of our own society who think a spouse has the control along with the support of a government / court can murder a citizen. They desire to control us on every aspect of our lives. They have the superior answers and attitudes which causes divisions and rightly so.
