Crews were called to the mall minutes after a user identifying himself as MacInnis posted a message on the Internet board 4chan.org implying that he was about to fire a shotgun inside the mall. The user posted a picture of the New River Valley Mall entrance near New River Community College on the board at 1:52 p.m, saying “It’s time,” along with a link to the local police scanner feed.

The mall is closed until tomorrow. The community college has a campus in the mall (former movie theater). This happened a few miles from Virginia Tech.
This is what happens in a consequence free environment. Examples need to be made. fear of consequences needs to be instilled.

My wife told me that he shot out some windows. This may not have been a targeted attack. He may have just gone in and started shooting.
The area he entered is the food court of the Mall. Big wide open space.
Well, the “media” is out there saying that if you start shooting people up, they’ll make you a big star and household name. More and more idiots are demanding their “15 minutes” and they “want them NOW!”

I think there is a reason why these guys wipe their hard drives. There is a group somewhere dedicated to this type of thing.
TV shows advocate that when you get prepared to do anything wrong you need to wipe your hard-drive. Saw that in two different shows today.
Nah, these things are done for glory. You want your hard drive there for people to see your awesomeness.

When you plan ahead, premeditate, and go to an establishment with a lot of people with the intent of shooting someone and shoot people, in my book that is attempted murder. To me malicious wounding would be firing into an area without the intent to kill but in a reckless manner. yes I know not legal definitions, but still it appears his plan was to get famous by killing.
Thankfully that isn’t correct....we have no mutual FB friends. If you put his name into FB search it gives you a list of friends you may know. That list has nothing to do with the person you are searching. Carry on, FRiends.
Then, don’t trust your instincts ~ he’s a headcase, pure and simple. They always are.
He did plan ahead. The New River Valley Mall code of conduct:
“8. The carrying of any weapon, other than by an authorized law enforcement or security officer, is not permitted.”
He didn’t fear meeting up with a concealed carry permit holder, as is the case in most mass shootings.
There are several malls here in Virginia that I refuse to go to.
