“and (I ask good Americans to think about this) an enemy of God.”

Don't take much thinking to know that God given rights can't be taken away by any man, can't be given away either.

This guy gets some of the picture but not all of it. The latest push for "universal background checks" is the nail in the coffin of the 2nd amendment and freedom.

I love the "who could be against expanded background checks" folks who are aiding and abetting the latest round of gun control legislation. The problem is that the government has inserted itself into the role of final arbiter who has a "right" to own a firearm. You're either on the narrowing "good guy" list or you're not.

It started with the who-could-object-to-it felons and loonies list and expanded to include wife beaters and people with long-ago misdemeanors for fistfights. More fun; once you're on the mystery "bad guy" list, you have no right to keep the guns you've got and a SWAT team can show up and take everything you've got and maybe shoot you or your dog in the process.

Can you, as a citizen of the country see your own status in the great government computer? Short answer, no. They say you're on the bad list and you don't have any way of knowing ahead of time and no chance to repair or expunge the record. Now all they have to do is make too many traffic tickets, or unreported income for taxes, or your neighbor doesn't like you - and stand by for the arrival of the MRAPs. It's all for our own good, of course.

Quite right about A&F. I was in NYC in 1967 (only time) and went to see their gun room. As I recall, it took up the entire floor of the building. You could find everything from a single shot .22 to a .600 Nitro Express. I distinctly remember an ash tray that was made from an elephant's foot. It was for sale, undoubtedly meant for some big game hunter's trophy room. A&F was very big as an African safari outfitter. If a safari was on your calendar, then A&F was where you went to get kitted out for your excellent adventure. Now, A&F is a store for yuppie puppies and mincing metrosexuals.

Dutch Boy said: "... even felons that have served their time should not be restricted either."

If the Supreme Court ruled that a lifetime prohibition against self-defense for a released felon was a cruel punishment, then the entire federal house-of-cards gun control system would collapse.

Assuming that a released felon can have children and a wife, what is not cruel about denying him the tools to defend them from attack?
