One of the videos posted here shows the explosion coming from the right and a runner crumpling to the ground as if he was hit with shrapnel or something.
Having run in long road races like this I know what it is like to be that close to the finish line. Every part of your body is screaming to stop and rest and you are in a state of euphoria that it is about to be over. I cannot imagine adding this to the experience.

Due to police activity, the Green Line is terminating service between Kenmore and Park Street Stations. Green Line service will continue to run between Lechmere and Government Center Stations.
Green B- and C-Lines are temporarily suspended.
Green D-Line service will run only between Riverside to Fenway.
Green E-Line service will continue to run between Northeastern and Brigham Circle. For customers desiring service between Brigham Circle and Health Street, please utilize Route 39 bus service.
The Red Line is also bypassing Park Street Station with the Red and Orange Line bypassing Downtown Crossing Station.

Fox reporting two more explosive devices found and being dismantled.
Of course, we’ve had several attempts in the past where the explosive devices didn’t go off, notable the Times Square attempt. Not the best bomb makers, thankfully. Might be a hint as to who was involved today.

My guess: lone wolf nut job. The bombs appear poorly made — only two out of four went off. They were smokey, so not high explosive. Probably a pipe bomb, perhaps with nails and or liquid fuel. There will be video of the person planting the devices — they would have been found in a pre-event sweep. The bomber will caught within a day or two.
Thinking out loud here: If it were Islamoterrorism, the Muslims like to time these things on the date of some event in their history with the West— usually when they got their butts kicked. This was the case with both 911 and the Madrid train bombing. The only significant April 15 incident I can come up with just a little research is that today is the anniversary of the first Arab-Israeli battle in 1948 in which the Arabs were defeated. Others here might find other connections.
