The Chatter: Democrat in McConnell taping saga asks for help with lawyer bills and more

One of the two Democrats implemented in the recording of a strategy meeting of U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell is asking people to donate to help pay legal fees.

Curtis Morrison, former member of the Democratic Super PAC Progress Kentucky, has started a legal defense fund setting a goal of $10,000 to pay legal fees. Morrison says he is cooperating in the FBI investigation looking into how the tape was obtained.

The website , created by Morrison Monday through gofundme.com, gives a description of the recording of the strategy meeting and asks for donations to help with legal fees.

Morrison says on the page:

I have been cooperating with the ongoing FBI investigation into how the recording was made. While my lawyer is charging a reasonable rate, I could use some help, and would be grateful for whatever you can pitch in.

If there’s any funds leftover, I humbly would like to use them for living expenses, food, finding a new apartment, etc.- until I can procure new employment, hopefully writing.

The page is listed under the category of “accidents and personal crisis” on the site.

Morrison has declined requests for media interviews, including with Pure Politics.

McConnell not feeling bipartisan?

Politico quoted Senate insiders who said the Republican Senate leader isn’t pushing for a bipartisan grand bargain because he’s tired of dealing with Majority Leader Harry Reid.

From John Bresnahan and Jake Sherman’s article:
Bad blood remains between party leaders and the national partisan realities haven’t changed. And while the leaders don’t get along, relationships among the other 98 senators will be tested when voting begins on the controversial gun and immigration measures — starting with this week’s expected vote on expanding background checks for firearms purchases. McConnell plans to pull out all the stops to block the bill, and GOP senators are blasting any immigration plan that they say smells of “amnesty.”

McConnell challenger releases campaign song

The first Democrat to announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate next year released a song in lieu of a campaign ad.

“I’m a working class guy who wants to be a voice for those who are not being represented in Washington, D.C.,” Ed Marksberry, a Democrat from Owensboro, says as the song begins. “I hear you and I think its time we all stand and say ‘what about us?’”

The song, titled “What About Us?”, lasts close to 5 minutes and is a combination of singing and Marksberry discussing issues like medicare, equality and gun rights.

Marksberry closes the song by saying “I’m Ed Marksberry and I’m running for U.S. Senate and I approve this message. Heck, I even wrote this song.”

I’ve been watching his GoFundMe site. The comments are hilarious. Almost (but not quite) enough to make me get a Facebook account. What a tool this guy is.

I think the writer means “implicated” instead of “implemented.” Makes me wonder about the rest of it.

Sounds good to me! I sure am glad Mitch is up for reelection this year. And "thank you", tea party.

Just found it myself...the wording indicates he’s trying to say the incident was somehow McConnell’s fault and that he had to be taped.

Good plan. You should start by taking a Jr. High English class. Then you could apply at MSNBC.
