A letter addressed to Senator Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) tested positive for the deadly poison Ricin this afternoon, according to two sources, and high-ranking security officials are briefing U.S. Senators now on the situation.

The letter, which there is no word on whether it was sent to Senator Wicker's Washington or home office, contained the poison in a powdery form, which is deadly if inhaled, injected or ingested. Ricin causes the body to stop forming protein and results in death within three to five days of exposure if not treated, and if successfully treated results in long-term organ damage.

The toxin has been used before in potential attacks on government officials, as one laced letter was sent to the White House in October 2003 and caught in the mail processing room while the poison was discovered on a sorter at the mail processing room of then Senator Bill Frist the following January.

Just a hunch here, but - maybe it’s from a disgruntled Democrat in the senator’s bailiwick?

A Republican gets a letter with Ricin?

Standard Democrat discourse.

Well, over here, FR thread Letter sent to Sen. Roger Wicker tests positive for ricin> it says

An envelope sent to the U.S. Senate office of Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) included a substance that has tested positive for Ricin, two sources say.

Sounds like DC.

Why him? Is this the start of a new letter/poison wave? Ricin isn’t like the weaponized Anthrax we had before—I guess its easier to make out of caster beans. The next 48 hours will tell the tale if its an attack or one nut.
