'Lacking Demand': Apple Skids to One-Year Low
CNBC Yahoo ^ | April 17, 2013 | JeeYeon Park

Apple (AAPL) tumbled to its lowest level in over a year as investors continued to dump shares of the tech company amid worries over second-quarter iPad mini shipments.

The once-darling tech giant of Wall Street shed more than 3 percent Wednesday, falling to its lowest level since last January, following a report from DigiTimes that iPad mini shipments could fall 20 to 30 percent quarter-over-quarter to 10 to 12 million in the June quarter due to "lacking demand in the market."

"We continue to see risks to [Apple's] consensus estimates, primarily with respect to the June quarter," wrote Edward Parker of Lazard Capital Markets. "June should be the trough quarter ahead of multiple new product introductions into this summer and into fall."

Amazing all the debris Apple is taking with it. At least the economy is doing well. So they tell us.

Does anyone really think that Apple’s stock would have tumbled this much if Steve Jobs were still alive and healthy!?!

I own an iPad mini, and it’s equal to the greatest device I’ve ever owned. And this from a guy who has been a gadget freak for forty years.

With the iPad mini, Apple fulfilled a desire I had for nearly thirty years. And what’s more, it fulfilled it by going farther than my wildest dreams to provide it.

The only other device that even comes close is my iPhone5, which is an absolute electronic miracle.

It has in the past. I recall around the year 2000-2001, AAPL went up to $125ish and then fell back down to <$20.

Good part of the Apple’s drive is Jobs embrace of Obama. If these two hadn’t been siamese twins, the iphone wouldn’t have been that much of a cult item.

And of course, Jobs didn’t drive Apple innovation so much as Woz.

Dear FReepers,
Due to the economy, combined with posters who refuse to donate, the FReepathon Team is anticipating a long haul. We have started working on Memorial Day graphics. Got ideas? Send them along. We also are looking for ideas on Flag Day

......the article continues

Experts expect this to change for the better when the US Govt begins providing homeless and welfare recipients the basic human right of a "mini-pad" and free wifi to accompany.

Or maybe the more obvious innovations have already been made and the next ones are harder to identify.

Maybe it’s because all of the iPhones and iPads people bought three years ago, are still “good enough.”

Yep, finding real improvements for the same basic product every six to twelve months probably gets trickier with each succeeding attempt to improve.

Apple is eventually going to have to become a content provider to keep the profits going....Eventually everyone is going to have the devices they need....devices are razors......content are the blades.

There may be some truth in the Obama connection. I still think Apple came along and introduced something so superior to what was out there, that the masses jumped in with both feet.

I had some of the early Windows Mobile based phones. Ick!

To compare the iPhone with them was to literally destroy them. They weren’t even in the same universe.

As for the creative driver, I think you’re right.

Look, I’m the furthest thing there is from an Obama lover. If I could purchase an iPhone without that factor, then I’m thinking a lot of other lesser Conservatives certainly could.

Remember, Apple consistently beats their own guidance each quarter. The "consensus estimates" are hyper-aggressive targets that the Apple stock is then punished for missing, despite not being projected by Apple itself. after last quarter's record-setting profits, the stock price dropped because those results, while well over guidance, didn't meet the rosy sky scenario that "analysts" put out there.

They're either idiots who just don't know any better, or crooks trying to manipulate stock prices so they can make money for themselves, with Apple just being the most high-profile of stocks they're doing this to. I tend to suspect the latter.

I agree... every Apple product I've ever owned or worked on is nothing short of a miracle, IMO. I hope Apple can keep producing these "miracles" without Steve Jobs...

I learned to program on the TRS-80 (Radio Shack) and the Apple II.

I will always be an Apple fan.

They started an American dream and grew into a major giant in the industry. As far as a capitalist free society, what’s not to love about that?

Their support for policies destructive to the society that allowed them to accomplish it?
