They are parasites, the citizens are the hosts. Next question?

B I N G O!!!

Irresponsible and uninformed voters allow these people to get into office... then they apathetically ignore the irregularities that take place in government!

Of course, SO many people DON’T pay taxes that the few remaining bear the burden and THEIR vote is outnumbered.

The deck is stacked against the remaining taxpayers.

He could have spent some money to officially represent the USA to go to Margaret Thatcher’s funeral. But I guess he wants to save tax payer money for that...

Agree. Every few clicks on the mouse, or hit on the enter key gets me some IE can’t do it message whether it’s to post, or just read an article. I’m refreshing a lot, and backing up, and doing it again even more.

Quite frustrating.

I used to work with a public employee union and they would openly speak of the taxpayers as the scum of the earth if they would not vote to raise taxes. I believe they thought that taxpayers were second or third class citizens. Their attitude was horrifying to me, however I did manage to get a few jabs in at them when possible.

Because they keep getting re-elected by those same taxpayers. (Unfortunately, those few who know better have to suffer along with the morons.)

RE: Because they keep getting re-elected by those same taxpayers

Since 47% pay no taxes, all you need is another big government 4% to re-elect these folks. Add in the fraud component and you have America in the 21st century.

With all due respect, no one ever “gets” how this works.

Not being wealthy and corrupt, most people find it impossible to imagine how the world looks from the perspective of such a person.

That, and a little fundamental logic is needed.

Perhaps a look at the fictional “Hazzard County”, with its boss, Boss Hogg, can be a good illustration. We can then replace the names, i.e., Tammany Hall (135 years of controlling New York City), etc., to try a real world example.

Boss Hogg has a lot of wealth and he controls key business enterprises in Hazzard.

He competes unfairly, unethically and frequently illegally in his business enterprises.

He uses his political connections to a) make extra money and b) mitigate the legal consequences to himself if his operations get into legal hot water.

He uses is wealth to “make” politicians who are then obligated to him. If a given politician “bucks his system”, Boss can simply “make” a new politician which he then throws the full support of his machine behind, while his machine abandons the uncooperative politician, and the old politician is unelected and Boss’s new politician is elected and once again the government will dance to Boss’s tune.

There are many other people besides Boss in Boss’s business/political machine. Every manager in his businesses can be made use of by Boss. They have nice jobs that they want to keep, promotions they seek, they have people who report to them in their job, and they know that orders start from the top. They know when Boss runs a candidate - do not oppose him, but work for his election.

Boss’s companies have purchasing power - they buy from supplier companies. If those companies want to do business with Boss’s network, they need to do what Boss asks of them. Or they could lose that big lucrative contract with Boss’s network. They could lose any busines they do with Hazzard Country, which Boss controls behind the scenes.

When there is an election, all Boss’s forces kick into gear; the newspapers, local radio, local TV, local Boss-affiliated businesses have signs in windows. Boss’s machine will cheat every chance it gets if it thinks it can get away with it. Bussing people to the polls, etc. Boss gets public figures in his orbit to give his candidate free advertising by mentioning them publicly with glowing testimonials. Boss has the local unions going out and working for his candidate.

Most people in Hazzard know that Boss is boss, but most don’t realize the extent of his operations, many have a hard time seeing the bias in Boss’s local radio and TV stations. Most don’t realize that Boss is getting his cohorts in the school system to brainwash their children. Most have no idea of the criminals that Boss has within his sphere of influence, nor do they know that the local law enforcement and judicial systems are filled with people who are under heavy influence of Boss. Most people are not aware that many of the powerful tax-exempt foundations in the County are controlled by Boss and used by him to create “movements” and influence the lawmaking and the school system in the Hazzard.

Now, in a somewhat different twist than the TV show - most people refuse to accept the fact that Boss is controlling much at all politically behind the scenes. They say all talk of Boss being “in control” is a lunatic conspiracy theory. They don’t realize that Boss started numerous conspiracy theories about himself that had blatantly false elements to the story. Theories that Boss dresses like a woman when he’s home alone, Boss is part of an occult group, etc., mixed in with facts like Boss owns all or part of most businesses on Main Street, he runs illegal businesses, etc.

So the citizens of Hazzard continue to fight the teacher’s union. They fight the new land development company from the next county over. They fight to get this or that politician replaced. Etc. All this, not realizing 99% of the truth about Boss’s influence.

So even though the “good guys” win a battle here and there, their wins are only temporary. Boss’s machine simply continues with its long-range plans for Hazzard County and its citizens, and any politicians elected by the “good guys” form a very small, feisty, but politically impotent minority, then they either “back off” on Boss and thus have a political “career”, or they lose to one of Boss’s candidates at some point.

Blaming the “voters” of Hazzard is to ignore the fact that Boss is not playing by the rules; no amount of effort by the people will ever change Boss’s ability to get his plans implemented, because his reach and resources are too great - and he cheats, he breaks the law. And the voters have no idea of all the places where Boss’s fingers are, the extent of the corruption. The voters know he is rich, but that’s about it; other than that, they’re blissfully ignorant of most of Boss’s “empire”. As a voter, I have no influence on choosing who Boss’s political backer machine selects to appear on the ballot (for both parties), and if an outsider candidate does manage to appear on the ballot, they can not possibly hope to compete with Boss’s resources and the resources of all the organizations that are aligned with him.

The only way out for Hazzard is to completely break up Boss’s entire machine, piece by piece, from the top down. Even from prison, bosses can run their illegal businesses. Boss and ALL of his cohorts need to be all put into a prison where they break rocks all day and have no communication with the outside world or each other. The organizations all need their charters revoked, to be shut down completely. There can be no “business heirs” who pick up pieces of the operation and continue with it.

But in order to break Boss’s operation up - the citizens first must admit that it exists.
