Plus, why is he at the hospital? If he wasn’t burned or “smelling strongly of gunpowder,” why didn’t they just question him or detain him?
Last fall, my neighbor had contractors welding something outside, and they literally set my tree on fire. I ran outside and beat the flames with a sweatshirt and burned my hand deeply.
For a few days you really couldn’t see it, but then it blistered, then that popped, then it looked bloody/pus like I got bitten by a wild animal. It took a full week to start looking like a burn, and I was staring at my hand from 1 foot away.

Can you not see the pics? No, he doesn’t have burned hands. There are no bandages and he’s got his fingers linked. The only thing on his hand is the IV bandage for the needle.
That begs the question, what’s he doing in the hospital? He’s standing up and is able to pose for the cameras with a big smile. So, maybe a bump or bruise under his gown but nothing to keep him hospitalized other than for observation either by the doc or the FBI.

The boy who was killed was with his mother, sister (both of whom were injured) and his older brother. The father was running in the race making it impossible for the man in the pic to be his father.
