Biden: 'The President Is Already Lining Up Some Additional Executive Actions' for Guns

Joe Biden says the president of the United States is preparing to take "executive actions" to deal with guns.

BuzzFeed reports:

Vice President Biden told White House allies in the gun control fight Thursday that President Obama will be announcing new executive actions on gun violence in the days after the Senate voted down a gun violence bill.

On a conference call with "stakeholders," Biden told gun control advocates that the fight is not over and that eventual action on gun control will come. Press were not invited to the conference call; a participant provided BuzzFeed with access.

"Look I know you're going to say that I'm just being an optimist and I'm trying to put a good face on this. But you know I've been around here a long time and we've already done, because of you, some really good things," Biden said. "Number one, the president is already lining up some additional executive actions he's going to be taking later this week."

I would imagine that all the residents without a firearm wished they had one during the ordeal in Watertown.

Were there two other amendments that were supposed to be voted on today? If so, I assume both of those were voted down as well?

I was under the impression that His Cadaverhood, the dishonorable Harry Reid, pulled the base bill, S.649, which all the amendments would have been amending. With no base bill, what's to amend?

I thought the executive orders were for things of an emergency nature, used until congress could pass a law on same.

My understanding is more like internal executive-branch policy statements on issues over which they have discretion without making new law. IOW, they can't make something legal that's illegal or vice versa, but they have some autonomy in determining how to carry out the responsibilities of their branch, and as the head of it, POTUS has the most autonomy of anyone in the branch. So the ones that he came out with right after Newton were fine, like "Do some research on this or that", or "Examine procedures to ensure, blah, blah, blah..."

Congress will do nothing... They will be absolutely crucified in the press if they oppose him and he knows it.

The press was pillorying them on S.649 and they didn't cave, for once. OTOH, they only needed 40 for that and didn't get 50. I bet they need at least 51 to override an EO.

Wouldn’t EOs be better since they go away with the President whereas a bill is forever. Heck as disorganized as the federal government is, these EOs will not eve be implemented by the time Obama leaves.

I don't believe they go away automatically. It's an official decree of exec branch policy. Now all it takes is for some other POTUS to write another one rescinding it, so it's not like it's difficult, but they usually don't, and I believe they're assumed to be in force till explicitly rescinded.

Why doesn't he take action on Muslim terrorists instead? Oh that's right, he stands with them.

In case you haven't noticed, Joe, we're under attack AGAIN......and you traitors LOST on trying to grab our guns. I realize it's difficult for a twit such as yourself to focus but try and keep up, Joe.
