But also remember Jan Sobieski...actually a Pole, who literally saved Europe from becoming Islamic in the late 1600s, exactly the same time that Issac Newton was putting the final touches on what would be called Calculus - which was the underpinning needed to launch the Industrial Revolution.
Vienna just happens to be in a really, really, odd spot in Europe. Just after WW2, the Soviets OWNED Austria, but pulled out for no apparent reason...really weird.

I don’t know history well enough, but I’m sure you’re right. In any case, I suspect that there was a lot to Yalta regarding the freedoms of those in Eastern Europe that weren’t quite met by the Soviets...Austria seemed to be a rare exception.
