Authors of the newly released Senate immigration bill touted the package Thursday as a "bipartisan breakthrough" in advance of a critical hearing, as opponents began to organize against the bill -- claiming it doesn't do enough to enforce existing immigration law.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., who has put his conservative reputation on the line with his involvement in writing the bill, took to the floor late Thursday afternoon to defend it. Though critics have homed in on the bill's pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, Rubio said the package would also fix a "broken" legal immigration system so that foreign students trained in America would not be sent back home once they've learned their skills.

...

"No immigration bill should ever pass Congress that the law enforcement officers on the ground tell us won't work or can't be enforced," Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., said Thursday.

Rubio is dumb.

In his defense, he follows in a long line of dumb Republicans who think that Democrats are trust worthy.

I’d like to see Rubio, Toomey and McCain lose in their next respective primaries.

I fear that McCain will be another senator like Robert Byrd -- death will be the only way to get him out of office.

A good reason to have term limits after at least 20 years.

In history, dictators maintain their position for life. Probably one of the reasons George Washington limited how long he was president of the United States.

After listening to Rubio and Rush, Rubio lost my respect. Great disappointment.

I just hope Boston terrorist act will make some supporter of the bill have second thought. We all should flood our “leaders” with letters and calls to stop this bill. Rubio had revealed his real agenda.

"pathway to citizenship" - There are many great immigrants in our history who helped build this great nation who never became "citizenships" for one reason or another.

If becoming a "citizen" is a requirement under this bill, that part would probably be tossed out in court. You cannot force a person to become an "American Citizen".

I think the Bandito de Ocho know this too. It's a trick.

This whole idea is just nuts.

We are gutting our military, the Pentagon still cannot even make payroll, we are going to decimate the military health care system for budget reasons.....so.......hey! Here's a great idea!

Let's give Amnesty to millions of Illegal law breakers (and their families!), and we will spend Trillions more on Entitlements, education, and health care for them.

That will make Hispanics love the GOP and we will get more votes! Promise!

Hogwash!. Obama is advertising food stamps in Mexico to bring in freeloaders, not entrepreneurs.

McCain is denying that the Arizona law will be negated.

The reason Arizona’s law works is some of the illegals self deport into California, Utah and Colorado. Some illegals are happy to self deport as well. Mexico is booming and living in the Mexico is better for some of them, than living in California.

If you let the illegals be legalized and vote they will turn red states blue. If you are stuck with the illegals it is better to keep most of them in California, New York and Illinois. Especially if they are illegally voting.
