The alleged Boston Marathon bomber may have tried to kill himself rather than surrender after he was cornered by police - but failed in his suicide attempt, it has been revealed.
A new report says Dzhokhar Tsarnaev shoved his pistol in his own mouth and pulled the trigger as SWAT officers and federal agents closed in on the boat where he was hiding in Friday night. However, instead of killing him, the bullet simply passed through his neck.
Authorities have said they cannot question him because of a throat wound. He remains in 'very serious' condition at a Boston hospital.
Boston Mayor Tom Menino revealed on Sunday that federal agents may never be able to interview Tsarnaev. Menino didn't elaborate on his comment and it is unknown whether the gunshot also caused brain damage.
The new twist in the story of Tsarnaev's dramatic capture comes as the Boston police commissioner warns that he and his brother Tamerlan were plotting more bomb attacks on the city and they were caught just in time. Authorities insisted that the pair were working alone.
CBS News correspondent John Miller reports: 'They say it appears from the wound that he might have stuck a gun in his mouth, and fired and actually just went out the back of his neck without killing him.

'That's one of the reasons he's unable to communicate, but he can understand what they're saying. And they believe there will be a point where he will be able to talk to him.'

Officials said late Friday after Tsarnaev was detained that they would use a public safety exemption to delay the suspect’s Miranda rights.
However, the exemption expires 48 hours after the arrest, so quick actions must be taken.

Come to think of it, I’m ok with him being an invalid for the remainder of his days for what he’s done.
So BPD continues to say they acted alone at the sand time FBI says there may have been 9-12 involved. At least they got their stories straight.
I’ve been wondering if he and his brother had a pact that they would not be taken alive. That would explain why he ran over his brother when he saw him being handcuffed by authorities. It would also explain his shooting himself once cornered, assuming he did, that is.
Can someone explain that video report in light of what has been reported???
At this point he’s likely on a ventilator and sedated. The I’m sure it’s true, they can’t get anything from him.

This photo was from the previous night, when he took residence in the boat after eluding police. Surveillance camera image from boat owner himself. Suspect probably triggered motion detector spot light which somehow no one noticed. That’s the story anyway..
That was his stunt double!
He’d been in that boat for approx. 20 hours before the boat owner located him then called 911.
