WSJ confirms 3 round tanks were for grain storage.
WSJ confirms that fertilizer building was both the source of the fire and explosion.

A bit loose with the facts here:

” The one here stored as much as 270 tons of ammonium nitrate, a common fertilizer that has been used as an explosive”

Ammonium nitrate mixed with fuel oil (ANFO) is what is used as the explosive. Ammonium nitrate by itself is not used as an explosive.

ANFO is used because it is cheap and more stable than other explosives.

Still no word from any source on how the plant handled and stored the ammonium nitrate.

NW corner of the building appears to be the source of the blast. The side photos appear to show a crater. The top photos show an area of fresh dirt.

Ammonium nitrate by itself is not used as an explosive.

But, ammonium nitrate by itself can be explosive, under certain circumstances. It requires heating or a source of ignition, and at least partial confinement.

The technical term is transition from deflagration to detonation.

What was the cause of the fire?

Why were there no fire alarms?
- First notification was the police calling.

Why did the fire spread so quickly?
- Ammonium nitrate does not burn well.
- The building was fully engulfed very quickly.

Yes, it really happened I saw the movie I tell ya.

But on a more serious note, how much you want to bet ?
As just like when a covert spy comes back home on a mission, or our military in a war and our governement takes them into debriefing they are asked questions and told that's not how the whole thing happened, therefore ? when questioned by the public " I can't recall what happened, or I have no knowledge of what happened, or this is how it really happned. " .

Plausible deniability.

Some of the facts and news are fast and foot lose.

There have been reports that there was a fire early in the day and the fire fighters came and thought it was put it.
Other news said that there was a strong thunder storm that came into the area and set off the blaze with lighting.
Other reports say that there was no personel or workers at the plant at the time.

This incident reminds me of the Gulf Horizon supposed accident a few years ago in the Gulf of Mexico.

Also ? there is no way for them to account for any of that stuff now since it's gone.
This whole incident is fishy.

How about that, what a coincidence.
So they can't blame it on a wild lightning strike ?
