Immigrant Kids, Adrift {Boston, liberal idiocy}
New York Times ^ | 20 Apr 2013 | By MARCELO M. SUÁREZ-OROZCO and CAROLA SUÁREZ-OROZCO

THE alleged involvement of two ethnic Chechen brothers in the deadly attack at the Boston Marathon last week should prompt Americans to reflect on whether we do an adequate job assimilating immigrants who arrive in the United States as children or teenagers.

..When asked “what do you like most about being here?” an 11-year-old Haitian boy in Cambridge told us, “There is less killing here.” His response was notably succinct, but not unique.

..Having just one friend who spoke English fluently was a strong predictor of positive academic outcomes. Yet more than a third of the students in our study reported that they had little or no opportunity even to interact with native-born students, much less make close friends.

Our research also confirmed that kids who arrive during their high school years, as Tamerlan Tsarnaev did, face bad odds, especially if they experienced interrupted schooling, family instability and traumatic dislocations back home.

..Whatever motivated the Tsarnaev brothers surely is not the fault of the schools and may never be known. Among some of the distinctive features of their case are family estrangement, multiple relocations across countries and, possibly, religious radicalization.

Taking in what Emma Lazarus called the “wretched refuse,” including asylum seekers like the Tsarnaev brothers, without providing a scaffold of support undermines the promise of America.

"alleged" involvement?

And no mention that Moslems are the ones who don't integrate? Do we hear of any Hindu or Buddhist or Asian Christian kids causing this mayhem or anywhere near similar level of mayhem?

The best response is from a Cuban
One reason for the Muslim youth (whether native born or immigrants) that become radicalized while living in the relative comforts of the west has to do with identity.

Becoming who they become - hate filled nihilists vowing revenge and wishing destruction over imaginary grievances -seems much to do with finding community with others who think like them, and a psychosocial environment that gives them refuge from the cold loneliness and the grief of having put up with a large number of petty slights in the environment. Maybe so, but I don't want you to fix that.

As an immigrant, I find the cold, disinterested, disconnected America intensely attractive and meaningful. One can think, read, do, write what one wants; the freedom I cherish is afforded me because no one cares. I really like it this way.

I love that I am left alone. It is likely that the radicalized youth call it rejection, and hate it. They rush into the arms of hate peddlers.

It is not the responsibility of America (or Americans) to assimilate me. It is your sacred responsibility to follow the constitution that guarantees freedom for you, and from you. I will pay my taxes (rent money), and stay on the straight and narrow, I promise. You promise to remain what made you great: dispassionate, disinterested, and cherishing the freedom to be left alone above all else.

I did not lose my way to socially engineered Cuba, I came looking for the promise of the US. Please don't change it.

As Sailer notes, being a liberal these days means being pro-ignorance.

These two had lots of opportunities...the younger one especially. He went to the best HS in Cambridge..people will kill to get in there. He got a Scholarship to go to UMass..
The older brother certainly had great opportunities as well.
The problem is that Islamic families are plagued with a rigid home structure..domestic violence...a religion that is a huge contrast with the world around them. We are just crazy to assume that letting huge numbers of these people in doesn’t expose us to great risk. That coupled with the Billions that the SAudi’s are spending on expanding radical Islam via mosques, associations and Imam’s is a dynamite combination. The Saudi’s are not our friends. They use of for protection from the Shiites and their own slaves and foreign workers.

A scaffold of support???? We practically give them a hammock! What total nonsese. The rest of the world does not adhere to western values. They will never assimilate, because they don’t want to assimilate. They are the real bitter clingers - clinging to their barbaric, primitive, tribal ways. What a load of bull.

That's the Department of Homeland Security and FBI's fault - NOT America's fault.
But thanks for sticking up for the haters of America, comrade.

Of course, we used to assimilate immigrants into American culture. But then our Liberal friends told us how horribly racist and intolerant that was. So the Lib elites set up a system where immigrants conciously were not integrated. They keep their own language and culture. They are taught how horrible traditional American values are. No one is permitted to criticize immigrant cultures or religion. And now the Libs wonder why an immigrant terrorist feels alienated and holds beliefs that allow him to murder innocent people.

Since when is it native-born Americans’ responsibility to integrate immigrants into the USA? If you don’t want to assimilate, stay home.

You can not assimilate muslims into America. Adherents to the religion of death and oppression can not integrate with people of freedom and liberty

I have questions:

Where did their money come from??

Reports have it that the bomber still alive had a dorm room & also ‘lived’ with his brother & SIL at an apartment.

They both were known by associates to have high priced autos-—Porche’s & Mercedes Benz’s.

Neither had any visable means of support. Even a stucent has to have money coming from somewhere.

Where did that money come from & who supplied it?

Someone needs to follow the money trail to it’s conclusion.

From the article: “Many newcomer students attend tough urban schools that lack solidarity and cohesion. In too many we found no sense of shared purpose, but rather a student body divided by race and ethnicity, between immigrants and the native born, between newcomers and more acculturated immigrants.”

Hey, Liberal loon, that’s multiculturalism. I know you dreamed of a utopia where everyone sits by the campfire and sings kumbaya, but the above is what always results with multiculturalism. It’s what you Liverals stuffed down our throat without ever asking the American people if that’s what they wanted, and now you blame Americans for not bending over backward to assimilate people from every creed, culture, and race of the world? No crap your social experiment isn’t working. My dog could have told you that it’s destined to fail.
