Thomas R. Dooley Jr., 28, stole a .22 caliber handgun and used it to rob a business. Police responded and stopped Dooleys vehicle, but Dooley then sped away leading authorities on a highspeed chase. During the chase, Dooley fired his weapon at a pursuing officer, attempted to ram a Bossier Parish Sheriffs Office vehicle, and caused another vehicle to crash. After turning down a deadend road, Dooley lost control of his truck and his vehicle ran into a tree. Then, he fled on foot. The handgun was found in his truck with all nine rounds fired.
Dooley entered a guilty plea.
The Haughton Police Department, Bossier Parish Sheriffs Office, Webster Parish Sheriffs Office, and the Shreveport office of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives conducted the investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert W. Gillespie Jr. prosecuted the case.
Wow.

Yes :-)
First thing that came to mind.
Damn! You nailed what I was going to post!
Are you kidding me!
Hang down your head Tom Dooley, hang your head and cry...
LOL!
Misleading headline. He was sentenced for far more than possession of a firearm: shooting at LEOs, armed robbery, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, etc.
lol! Only old people remember that song. I must be old.
No, he was sentenced to 40 years in state court for armed robbery and attempted murder.
The 10 years in federal prison for possession of the firearm will be served after the 40-year sentence. They hope to “send a message that this type of crime will not be tolerated.”
LOL!!!
The Federal charge makes it possible for Dooley to be tried in state court yet again, this time for violating LA’s “Three Strikes” law. He will serve 50 to life in State prison.
I resemble that remark. Don’t forget John Henry.
He deserves another 50 years for being stupid enough to shoot at cops with a .22 caliber pistol. I’m surprised they brought him in alive.
I developed and taught a Tall Tales workshop for grammar-aged kids... i covered John Henry, Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill and Johnny Appleseed in 4 seperate classes... so much fun... as a kid, i found the John Henry story haunting...
However, a good Tom Dooley was our Fullback at Baltimore City College High School and beat the crap out of our rivals Poly in the 1961 and 1962 games.
Hang your head high, Tom Dooley.
City’s got the spirit, City’s got the guts,
City’s got Poly by the nuts, Pull, team, Pull!
Just had our 50th Reunion and it was great. Unfortunately they served Pablum, Geritol and Prune Juice for dinner.
A lot of us still had some get up and go left in us.
“Dooley pleaded guilty to the federal charge on Dec. 12, 2012. Dooleys 10year federal sentence is to be served consecutive to the state court sentence, and the federal sentence begins to be served after he completes his 40year state court sentence.”
People forget that this is Louisiana. He will likely serve about 2 years of the 40 year state sentence, but the feds will hold him for the full 10 years.
This is the stuff that the NRA talks about - hit these repeat felons with stiff federal sentences, because local and state courts (especially some big-city) courts WILL NOT, as they consider minorities disproportionally represented in jail, and allowing these animals to go loose in LaHood is their SICK WAY of righting their perceived wrong.
Yep, The Kingston Trio, 1963.
Our 50th was several years ago, didn't make it but four good school friends visited us last summer we hadn't seen in years. Had a great time reminiscing and talking about classmates and the crazy things we did.
Time sure flies:)
