Reid bill would require background checks to purchase explosive powders

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) on Tuesday introduced a bill that would require background checks to be run on anyone buying explosive powder, a reaction to last week's Boston Marathon bombing.

Reid introduced the bill, S. 792, for Sen. Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), who has been out sick for much of the year. But in a press statement, Lautenberg said the Boston bombing shows that background checks are needed for explosive materials.

"It defies common sense that anyone, even a terrorist, can walk into a store in America and buy explosive powders without a background check or any questions asked," Lautenberg said Tuesday. "Requiring a background check for an explosives permit is a small price to pay to ensure the safety of our communities.

I used to work with a guy that was military trained expert in improvised explosives.

He said there was enough explosives in your average grocery store to pretty much level a city block with explosions or the resulting fire from the explosions.

You really want something powerful you would need to go the drug store.

There are limits on how much black powder (explosive), and gun powder (propellant) a person can transport (without a permit).

There are also storage requirements for amounts, and container design, that are developed for fire purposes, and that have been adopted by some states.

Right. Bullets have explosive powder.

No, bullets have propellant. I expect that because he's too ignorant to know the difference, he'll demand that we should be, too.

HEY NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION, HOW’S THAT ‘B’ RATING YOU GAVE REID WORKING OUT FOR YA?

About as well as the "A" rating they gave "Traitor Joe" Manchin and Backstabber Toomey. Lousenberg at least got the "F" rating he so richly deserves.

Absolute end-around to compile a list of purchasers
of reloading components, that is, gun owners. My Grandpa, who taught me how to hand load, would be aghast.

I remember reading some Finn Aagard article and it was mentioned that this was the case in KENYA. Hmmmm.

I bet we read the same article ... had to do with "Big Game" hunters bringing their handloads and getting into boatloads of trouble.

I had to chuckle at that graphic, but only a bit.

We are losing our freedoms, one at a time, but more rapidly than most of us ever would have thought, back when free thought was encouraged.

We are losing our freedom, in part because free thought is today actively discouraged.

We are losing our freedom because our government is today commanded by cowards who are simultaneously obsessed with power and consumed with self-loathing.

We are losing our freedom because our leaders fear identifying or judging those who seek to inflict damage upon our nation, and also secretly believe that we deserve to be damaged.

How long is it before one's own government, by refusing to even name, much less fight against its sworn enemies, itself becomes an even greater enemy of its own people?

“Sigh; pretty soon there will be a background check to eliminate anyone with an IQ higher than room temperature and who might object to the liberals’ utopia.”

Harrison Bergeon: http://www.tnellen.com/cybereng/harrison.html

“THE YEAR WAS 2081, and everybody was finally equal. They weren’t only equal before God and the law. They were equal every which way. Nobody was smarter than anybody else. Nobody was better looking than anybody else. Nobody was stronger or quicker than anybody else. All this equality was due to the 211th, 212th, and 213th Amendments to the Constitution, and to the unceasing vigilance of agents of the United States Handicapper General. “

Hardware stores and pharmacies can also supply potentially lethal chemicals. Nitric acid and anhydrous ammonia can produce ammonium nitrate, which can then be combined with a hydrocarbon (e.g. - fuel oil) to make very powerful explosives.

So are we going to have a seven-day waiting period for cleaning supplies now? Or a license to buy fertilizer? Background checks for private ammunition reloaders?

Or instead: are we going to stop surrendering our liberty and admit that the enemy of America and the enemy of Western civilization is Radical Islam and that it is almost uniquely responsible for terrorism across the globe today?

They are deliberately importing and creating the very problems they’re using as excuses to take our freedoms.

I worked at Ingalls shipyard in Mississippi.

One of the fitters was missing most of his fingers on his left hand. He had accidentally filled his glove with a mixture of oxygen and acetylene then lit his cutting torch.

A blogger (Reditt) posted a message the day of the bombing (Monday) that said the event was staged...

So, we were literally bombed by our own government?

Too bad no background check is needed before purchasing Harry Reid. He’s been bought so often the whores are beside themselves with jealousy.
