Boston police want drones for 2014 marathon security

Boston’s top cop wants drones hovering over next year’s marathon, but getting his hands on one may be easier said than done.

More than 30 states, including Massachusetts, are rushing to restrict the use of drones by law enforcement, with some seeking to ban it in all but the most extreme circumstances.

Even if unmanned aerial systems could have shortened the search for the terrorists who wreaked havoc on Boston last week, many people are deeply skeptical about giving authorities carte blanche to use potentially dangerous technology.

“It’s not surprising that you have law enforcement agencies rushing out to use [the Boston bombing and subsequent manhunt] as pretext to secure additional powers but I think we have to maintain perspective and realize that civil liberties and the protections we’re granted under the Constitution and our rights to privacy, to a degree, are nonnegotiable,” said Massachusetts state Sen. Robert Hedlund, a Republican and sponsor of a drone restriction bill in the legislature.

Better yet, have law abiding Americans with their guns invited to man the viewer routes.

Deport all muzzies and let no more in ... wait two years to monitor and document the peace and tranquility... and enough time to rid congress of all the traitors

...are rushing to restrict the use of drones...

And let’s get rid of this Shelter-in-Place $hit.

You want Martial Law, call it Martial Law.

"Even if unmanned aerial systems could have shortened the search for the terrorists who wreaked havoc on Boston last week, many people are deeply skeptical about giving authorities carte blanche to use potentially dangerous technology."

But they don't mind electing and RE-electing even MORE dangerous politicians ... go figger.

>>> Boston police want drones for 2014 marathon security

WHY? So they can recognize/catch terrorists after the fact?

Why not prevent it in the first place????

Gen. Thomas Gage is probably kicking himself that he didn’t have these patsies around in 1774. It would have saved a lot of trouble.

You're right. Definitely a weird disconnect going on there.

Where the DC brain trusts and others have gone wrong:

The dream of a great break through in technology that will expose all bad guys.

But the time wasted on this daydream could be spent using known information and tried and proven methods that would prevent or solve crimes.

Boston is an outstanding example of this problem. The FBI in particular and the Boston cops, not the cop on the beat but rather the management level cops, mismanaged this event at every step of the way.

Keystone Cops. High tech weapons helped them not.

Drones in their hands will only endanger the public, not resolve or prevent crime.

The capture of the remaining bomber demonstrates my point.

Found only because a home owner went out in his back yard to smoke.

My neighbour can track a bleeding deer in the woods in the dark with nothing but a flash light for his high tech equipment.

Whenever anyone in our neighbourhood needs to track a wounded deer, they call him.

Any third rate tracking dog could have found the guy in minutes. Blood trails really turn a tracking dog on.

Then when they were shown by the neighbour where the bad guy was hiding, they shoot up the neighbourhood shooting at an unarmed man.

That means the first shot was fired by a cop and the rest of the cops acted out of hysteria.

Very unprofessional and demonstrates a lack of training and a lack of control by the officer in command.

Give them a drone. Arm it. Lots of luck.

How long will it be before we start hearing from Bostonians like we are hearing from the people of Newtown. Obama will have them behind him at the podium saying they all want drones.

What ever happened to good old fashioned bloodhounds? At least they could have tracked the younger brother down pretty quick - but I don’t believe they were used at all.

I swear I am almost considering a thought process that the moochelle had a saudi visitor and they coerced this Boston terrorist attack by the brothers all in the effort to make the people accept martial law, drones and background checks for nearly everything on earth.
