As a parting shot, the Battle-Cruiser USS Olympia resides at Penn's Landing, Philadelphia, Pa. I visited the Olympia when I was a mere boy, some fifty years ago. On the bridge, at the spot where Dewey was standing when he uttered those immortal words at the Battle of Manila Bay, are a pair of brass footprints, memorializing the quote.
When I was coming up through elementary and high school, this event was celebrated, as were all of the great moments of our Nation's history. Now . . .
"Riamh nár dhruid ó sbairn lann!"
Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!
Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)
