I understand your suspicion.
Problem I have is that this regime is BOTH ill-intentioned AND incompetent.
Kind of hard to slice and dice this thing as to which is which, when, and when it’s some of both.

Have you considered the possibility that it is precisely the incompetence that is being used to further ill-intention?
It seems to me that the wall is back in place. Not by rule of law, but by the layers of bureaucracy and the never ending changes in the definitions of words that create inter-agency confusion.
As a result, these agencies that are designed to protect Americans, become impotent as the information gets classified and reclassified between themselves.
The well intentioned analyst loses control to a system designed for paralysis.
So, the influence and input of the ill-intentioned gov’t official can be very small, but becomes leveraged into the system.
Now, if I know this because I created this system (if I were an ill-intentioned Administration member) I can now use this to allow for the natural progression of terrorist planning and execution to take place.
BTW, getting people to support efforts that ultimately lead to this level of incompetence would not be difficult. I’m sure most, if not all of them, think they are doing the “right thing” as they infuse the system with the fairness of a true multi-culturalist.
