While I understand the mother’s feelings and reaction, I don’t agree that 15 is too young...the writer Laura Ingalls Wilder was married at fifteen. It was common for young women of 15 and 16 to get married throughout history.

Yes, but they seemed far more sober-minded and mature back then. Kids today seem to be nothing more than trundling bundles of appetite and attitude.

That is different. She was expected to marry young and she was done with school, she was teaching school.

Now our 15 year olds can be completely manipulated by adult molesters and its not ok. I got the guy’s age wrong in my head though. I don’t actually have a problem with 17 and 15. I do with 25 to 15.

That was then. This is now. Now, girls don't graduate from high school until 18 and from college until 21-- a gap of 3 to 6 years. Also, sex leads either to children or abortion. Therefore, most American parents in the present day try to help their girls avoid living in one kind of sin or another until they are able to finish their education and pay their own way in life. Otherwise, you have a single mother with a job, a 15-year-old at home with one or more illegitimate babies, filth and squalor all around, and no man with a job anywhere in sight. It's called multi-generational poverty.
