New Jersey 2nd-grade teacher fired for making students empty bottles of his urine

Wheelchair-bound Ron Tuitt, 56, a Paterson, N.J. second-grade teacher who peed into bottles that he then had students take to the bathroom to be flushed has been fired.

Wheelchair-bound Ron Tuitt, 56, would ask his second-grade class to close their eyes as he urinated into the container.

Once it was full, he would choose a child to take it to the restroom to be emptied.

He also forced students to go on personal errands, let them sit in his chair and sent parents inappropriate emails.

It led to Tuitt — a teacher with more than 20 years' experience who is in a chair due to severe leg swelling from lymphedema — being dismissed from School 13 in Paterson.

Court documents claimed Tuitt asked students to empty the bottle at least three times a week between 2006 and 2011.

He denied some of the charges made against him, but confessed to others saying that it was because he was ill.

Peter Tirri, president of the city's teachers union, said Tuitt was being treated unfairly because School 13 principal Michelle James did not like his popularity with the students.

"This should have never happened to Ron Tuitt. It's absurd for him to go through all this and lose his job," Tirri told New Jersey.com. But State Education Commissioner Christopher Cerf approved the firing, and Tuitt was officially dismissed on April 18.

A male teacher instructing second-graders in that school is probably for many of them the only male authority-figure in their lives.

Probably a high percentage of the children have no fathers living in their households. Girls and boys alike need male leadership-figures from an early age on.

Three times a week and it took them five years to address it?

Lawsuit!?

Take the kids out of school and homeschool.

There are alternatives. The ONLY reason public school.s do this is because parents allow it.

If parents think they’re not in charge of their childrens’ upbringing and education then it is THEY who are giving up freedom for government control

Just about ANY Dad would go along with education decision of the mother of his kids, so why do women put up with this? They are more devoted to their jobs or their time than they are to their kids.

Feminism and women’s liberation is not about advancing women. This is the OPPOSITE of freedom of choice. Women are so stupid. They want the freedom to choose to kill their kids but they can’t make a choice to pull their kids out of school.

I hate when mothers spend all day complaining about their childrens’ school. Get them out of there. Imagine how the child feels. No one is taking care of his education and upbringing leaving him with that teacher.

The story reads, to me, “mothers left their children with this horrible representative of the horrible teachers’ union.

Women, take control of your homes!

THAT is what you think is important from this article?
That male teachers are ok for young kids?

Do you think it is “ wonderful” for this fat ass to pee in a bottle and then make the 7-8 y o’s empty it?

Men teach after the kids are of a certain age. Middle school, really.

He’d have to be very special, I can’t imagine it.

In Agri days, men(fathers)stayed home with kids and taught during non harvest times. Women had to manage the house.

That’s not what we have here.

Huh.

My kids have had a mix of men and women in the classroom throughout grade school. It's pretty typical here in New England.

there’s nothing wrong with men teaching the second grade as a rule. most don’t like to as they’d rather teach older children they can actually talk to logically and really teach them more complicated, complex things. where i went, there was a 4th grade male teacher, and before that, none. i don’t think most male teachers have an appeal to teach younger kids, for a number of reasons.

there is something wrong with this particular guy teaching the second grade, though. if it was such a problem, why didn’t the school put him on medical leave!?! you just don’t do this, kids are not caretakers at any grade level. teachers do not pee in bottles in class. administrators should have removed him at the first sign he was having medical problems affecting his normal teaching ability. they have medical leaves and substitute teachers for these kinds of things.

problem is they’ve systematically gotten ridof maleteachers at every level. what’s left, often, are schlubs like this.

“Wheelchair-bound Ron Tuitt, 56, would ask his second-grade class to close their eyes as he urinated into the container.”

“Once it was full, he would choose a child to take it to the restroom to be emptied.”

Perhaps it’s my ever-more cynical nature, or perhaps it’s because I know several folks with disabilities who would never even THINK of doing something like this...but I have to wonder if there’s something a little more sinister in this guy’s behavior than just being unwilling to take care of his bathroom needs. Meaning, is this guy getting some sort of weird kick/thrill about peeing in front of his class and making a kid empty it out? I admit it’s far-fetched, but I don’t put anything out of the realm of possibility these days.

Either way, what a disgusting thing to do. Lymphedema is a nasty business, but there’s no excuse for what this guy was doing.

Well, at least we finally know what it takes for a teacher to actually get fired.
