MOSCOW, April 27 (UPI) -- Russian citizens should not be allowed to freely own guns for purposes of self-defense, says President Vladimir Putin.

His comments were made after a gunman with a rifle killed six people in southwest Russia Monday, RIA Novosti reported Saturday.

"I do not support the idea of free arms distribution in Russia," Putin told a Russian television station. "It is dangerous to artificially stimulate this process."

Pick of Obozo shooting the shotgun was about as real as Putin riding the Bear.

At least one? Guess muzzling the press and nationalizing the gas and oil didn’t count. He’s still ahead of Obama when it comes to having the cops beat up the people . . .

So far as I can make out, he's opposing gun sales without permits. He's just advocating the status quo.

According to Wikipedia, Russians can buy "smoothbore shotguns, such as, for example Saiga 12, gas pistols, or revolvers shooting rubber bullets. Safe use of one of the above weapons for five years allows purchase of a rifle or carbine."

Would you advocate that level of gun control for the USA?

No. I’m just saying, he’s not advocating any change here, just supporting the laws they already have.

He’s also comparing his laws to the USA’s ones and saying the USA’s ones are bad while his are good.

Implicitly, I guess. He came up through the communist regime and is an authoritarian, so it's to be expected.

My point in posting was just to say that Russians can have guns and will continue to be able to have guns, though under greater restrictions than we have here.

There are a lot of hunters in Siberia and Russia's Far East, so clearly (though there are restrictions) some Russians do have guns.

In other words, I was posting more about how Russians live, than about what should or shouldn't be done about guns here or there.

We don’t allow them to have thoughts. Why should we allow them to have guns?
