Colorado Repeals Law That Required Police to Report Illegals to Federal Authorities

On Friday, Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper (D) signed a bill that repeals the 2006 law, SB06-90 . The bill required police to alert federal authorities about suspected illegals living in the US. The bi-partisan supporters of the repeal said the law made immigrants afraid of law enforcement.

Fox News Latino reported:

Those who wanted the law repealed argued it made immigrants afraid of police. They also say the law is now duplicative because a federal program checks fingerprints during arrests to check immigration status. Proponents of such laws say that the federal government has failed to control illegal immigration, forcing states to take matters into their hands. The U.S. government has tried to fight such laws, and argues that immigration is a federal issue. Colorado’s law, known as SB-90, required police to report people they arrested and they suspected to be undocumented to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“As immigrants become more and more involved in our civic life, they are having a greater impact on elections and legislation and they are voting for politicians that support issues that are important to them,” said Miriam Peña, executive director with the Colorado Progressive Coalition. “This bipartisan vote on the Trust Act tells me the growing influence of Latino and Asian immigrants is changing the political dynamic in Colorado.”

On Wednesday, the Colorado state Senate approved a bill allowing illegals to obtain drivers licenses. If passed, Colorado will be the 5th state to give illegals driving privileges.....

Another sprng like this one and the ice will start forming on top Pike's Peak and start sliding down scaring the dickens out of all the tropical types.

Shame the legislature won't be redistricted until 2021, so no matter what you've got 8 more years of idiocy.

In the real world, behavior like this would cost the States federal highway money. This was the threat to force all states to raise the drinking age to 21.

If we are not going to enforce the law, repeal it. However, the police or the Feds do not have the right to choose what laws they want to enforce. If they refuse to enforce the law, fire them without benefits immediately. Anybody who refuses to do the job they are paid to do should be fired without hesitation.

The Demolshoviks in Colorado are going full commie. They think they are leading the way for socialism in the United States now that Obama is quacking and laying eggs.

“...the law made immigrants afraid of law enforcement.”

Tough crap. They SHOULD be afraid of law enforcement.

And if they are here illegally, they are NOT immigrants!

Sheesh!

Wow. Colorado is just on, like, fire right now.

They ought to go for gold at this point and nationalize everything in the state and take this socialist dream into the stratosphere.

Numerous CO Sheriffs have said they will refuse to enforce
any new Federal or state gun control laws. I support them.

This pattern of large cities having total domination over the country, the rest of us be damned, has got to be altered.

Colorado is a beautiful, western state, but I take it, now dominated by liberals packed into Denver, and to hell with the rest of the state.

This is exactly why you can’t pass ANY type of legalization. After this wave is legalized the country will be open for all others.

They sure are and a very weak GOP has given them the go ahead. My bet is they next go after repealing TABOR in some form and perhaps right to work laws.
I’d put money on El Paso county putting more liberals in office both locally and at the state level within the next couple of election cycles. I’d looooove to be wrong though. The Republican representatives in El Paso county have gotten lazy, predictable and have taken their constituency for granted.
Colorado GOP has been sent to the wilderness, and it will be interesting to see how long they stay there.

In other words, Colorado is violating federal law by aiding illegal aliens.

Enforcing illegal laws would be an exception.

Yeah, for sure. It will be interesting to see if the real Coloradans will take their state back in the next election cycle. Sadly, they may be now outnumbered by the kalifornian expats. Too bad.....

Oh, I'm sure they are working on that. It will be passed and signed into law in the dark of the night.

This from a state where there’s a “medical” marijuana joint on every other street corner, at least in Denver. Must have a much higher than average glaucoma rate in that town...

In Berkeley CA the people are so blase' about medical marijuana that they drop their little medical pot baggies everywhere. I saw one the other day at Whole Foods. A few months before that, I saw one on a grassy street median, and it still had the product inside (I left it where I found it).

“We are working on it already! “

Fantastic! Hope you all pull it off! We (conservatives) need Colorado back in the Red L for sure! New Mexico needs to get busy too. But sadly I’m not so optimistic about it. But, we shall see....

This is what happens when a state gets infected with liberal Democrat psychopaths. They are trying to destroy the state and doing a great job of it.
