The Baker’s Union forced them into a strike that everyone knew would kill the company. It was about the union throwing its weight around, and the workers could go to heck.
I recall seeing something about how the former Hostess [union] employees could collect federal bennies under some foreign competition law if the Hostess filed for bankruptcy.
I didn't see any follow-up about it, but I wasn't surprised under this administration's NLRB either.
That probably helped the union continue its recalcitrant position.
