Manchin Keeps Tryin’ (“Absolutely” come up for another vote)

His gun-control bill may have fizzled, but Senator Joe Manchin, Democrat of West Virginia, isn’t giving up hope.

“I was with Pat [Toomey] last night, and Pat’s totally committed to this bill. And I believe that with all my heart,” he said on Fox News Sunday.

Manchin predicted that their legislation to expand background checks will “absolutely” come up for another vote. ”We’re going to work this bill,” he said. “I truly believe that if we have time to sell the bill,” it can pass, he said.

In an interview last week with NR, Toomey shared Manchin’s perspective.

“If we had had the luxury and time to roll this out differently, maybe we would have ended up in a better place,” he said.

Must need a bigger yacht, now that he's JUST BEEN ELECTED TO A SIX-YEAR TERM.

How much is MAIG paying him? Doesn’t he know he’s doomed for re-election?

If we have more time to set up a few more false flags, we can get this bill passed.

If he’s old he may not care. He may become a “moderate Republican” Judas Goat somewhere in the Obama admin if he loses anyway.

What is to stop them from pulling a Brady Act 2?

It was Thanksgiving weekend, most of congress had gone home. 4 senators called a quorum and voted in the bill. Mark Hatfield and Bob Dole were the two ‘R’s. And what do the republicans do about that outrage???? They NOMINATE DOLE FOR PRESIDENT!!

That’s when I quit the GOP.

[snip]As Vice President Al Gore and Mark O. Hatfield, an Oregon Republican who supported the bill, watched, the two Senate leaders, Bob Dole of Kansas and George J. Mitchell of Maine, pronounced the measure adopted by unanimous consent. That is a parliamentary device allowing the leaders to pass the legislation themselves by voice vote after ascertaining that no senator would object.

These traitors just don’t give up.

Hiding behind his Federal gestapo, he has nothing to lose. But have him, or any of the others like him, come ALONE to our homes and try to take our guns from us, and he’d drop this treason right away.

Perhaps Congress is not his future, but some corporate board?

He was wailing that there “absolutely” was NO registration.

I would say that there is “absolutely” NO way that their stupid law can be enforced without registration.

That’s my take from the not so whispering crowd here. The stench democrats dislike him and the suckers that feel for his charm have a slight clue now. He is going to milk bloomberg for all he can and try to have some cash when his term is up.

Thanks NRA for providing this idiot cover.

Was there any coverage of Lanza's treatments and doctors or did they all just melt away? It seems to me to be really easy to find a troubled kid with access to guns, put him on meds and start the conditioning.

“Voters in West Virginia are going to fixate on getting rid of this fool.”

I still remember his first election to the Senate. People ON THIS SITE were told not to worry about him. He was a great governor and as strong a gun supporter as any Republican.

Hopefully we can learn from this - political party is EVERYTHING these days - I honestly believed that if Manchin flipped over and became a Republican, he would be as reliable as Richard Shelby...who is as conservative as they come in the Republican Party.

But Manchin stayed a Dem, and like Bart Stupak, when push came to shove, he sided with the president.

In other words, NEVER, EVER, trust a Dem.

Didn’t he shoot a hole in some plan or bill before his election? I can’t quite remember.

“Didn’t he shoot a hole in some plan or bill before his election? I can’t quite remember.”

Yep, it was a BRILLIANT commercial. He basically said that gun rights were safe by him. But he was a Democrat, and the party won him over.
