Like an aging rocker, Texas Governor Rick Perry is currently on the 2013 I’m Coming For Your Jobs tour across America. His first stop: California a couple months ago. This week he’s in Illinois, where he got a nasty reception from public officials. The trips are part of an effort to get businesses from highly taxed and heavily regulated states to relocate down South — but his efforts may fall flat, if recent history is any indication.
Texas has arguably become one of the few true economic success stories since the recession. The state has an unemployment rate of around 6% and a $9 billion budget surplus, even as many states struggle with 8% and 9% unemployment and severe budget deficits.
The state is run by pro-business Republicans in the state legislature, along with Gov. Perry, who supports low regulation and low taxes. Texas doesn’t have an individual income tax, either. Its minimum wage is lower than other left-leaning states, which keeps labor costs down. Prices for land and housing are low. And the oil and natural gas boom in recent years has kept jobs from leaving the state. The tradeoff for all this, of course: Texas’s relatively flimsy social safety net.
But Perry still isn’t satisfied with business in Texas. The governor sees even more potential if he can just lure corporations away from states that aren’t as friendly to business. The two states he’s visited so far, California and Illinois, rank 50th and 48th, respectively, in a survey of best states for business, according to a recent poll in the Wall Street Journal.

Nope. I don’t deny that there are liberal areas. I posted earlier about my concern that bringing these companies can bring their liberal employees.
But to claim that population caused the problem on its own, as you seemed to be, is off the mark based on a population vs liberal policies comparison.
There are other factors at work.
Pie in the sky...
Low wage workers contribute to jammed hospitals, choked off social services, drug/alcohol issues up the ying yang, crime etc, with demands for more schools, jails, cops, taxes....you get it.
Sure they might be more productive short term for the greedy unscrupulous who hire them, but what's that get the communities, in the long run who eventually are forced to pick up the tab?
Watch it...Profits regardless of consequences can destroy entire regions, cities and entire states.

You deny TX major population centers like Austin, Dallas and Houston are becoming increasingly liberal and more controlling with many becoming more govenrment dependent in these population centers?
I will be more clear. I do t deny they are becoming more liberal.
Question for you:
If population, not policies causes the liberal mess in places like California, why is Texas so much more conservative?
Rather than gloating about how we don’t understand, maybe you should look to the real root cause at home.

If you're denying this, it would seem you're suggesting Dallas, Austin and Houston are are the same conservative population centers they were just 30 or so years ago.
You think anyone buys that?
You really are an example of why California failed, you despise Texas as much as any lefty on DU, that 57.2% republican voting state in 2012, drives you nuts rather than pleasing you, and giving you hope for conservatism and serving as an example.
California always had plenty of rinos and anti-conservative republicans.

You have wrong...The liberal/leftist policies will eventually follow as the population centers became more populated. In the 1950 and 60s, CA with a much smaller population was very conservative. As it became more populated, it became more liberal.
Fact is, Dallas, Houston and Austin are increasingly becoming more controlled by the leftist, liberals and worse. I know this because I've been told this by Texans and people right here on this site, that this is exactly what is occurring in these major population centers.
You should have seen these Perry-haters during the primary. It was like being stung to death by hornets once they gathered each other onto a thread.

It seems you’re making my point.
We’ve been the second most populated state for a long, long, time and are no where near the second most liberal. Yet you keep asserting that a population increase from these new businesses will tip the scales.
I again suggest there are other factors you are not considering.

I don’t recall California ever being conservative like Texas, in fact, almost a half century ago Californians considered Austin the only oasis of sanity within Texas.
California has been republican, but it was always a loosey/goosey, rino, social liberal republicanism.
You are a perfect example of the attitude of many Californians towards Texas conservatism, they despised and mocked Texas, even in the 1960s.
Nope, I don’t, because I reap early point out the broken corrolation between population and liberalism. You totally miss that we are already almost the same population as California yet nowhere near as liberal.
Something else that I know empirically that is happening in Texas that will not show up in snapshot demographics: liberals who move here can and do become more conservative over time. Not all, but some. And liberals who move here and raise their kids here have ended up with kids who were more conservative the they are.

Perry runs for Prez = Californians pinging each other in their sleep to defecate on Perry threads.
Perry poaches business: see above, but not as intensely.
BTW, CA was very conservative for many many years....See 3 strikes your out, Reagan, mega industry, etc, etc. But look what happened over the past 30 years or so....Well...
