"I am not one of your locally home grown house negroes. I don’t shuffle, I don’t tap dance, and I don’t take out the garbage… Some of the citizens in Martinsville need to wake up because I am black. I am also a voice for black people and we are tired, we are fed up and we are not taking it anymore” said Sharon Brooks Hodge, a member of Martinsville City Council, speaking to a Martinsville television reporter.

If she is offended, maybe she and her people will stop taking welfare money from whitey.

The term "offensive" has an entirely open ended meaning and is determined totally by the person who wishes to be an offended party. This is irrational. Unfortunately it has been enshrined in hate-crime and discrimination laws.

"Offensive" has nothing to do with words, actions or intent of the perpetrator and everything to do with the perception or intent of the "victim" and designated victims are offended by anything at all originating with a designated oppressor group member up to and including mere existence. If an official victim perceives offense then there is offense. One becomes a criminal entirely by the determination of another. Bill of attainder was one of the sore points that led to the Declaration of Independence. These laws and the civil usages of it all are very like bills of attainder.

“They won’t even realize it but from now on they will see black people in a different light. The council woman just did enormous damage to her race, and to race relations.”

I have to wonder if she did mean to hurt race relations. Truly...I see no other reason for such an undeserved insult to those kids. (She also asked them if “any black children were involved in making the quilt”. Wow....really wow.)

If the black figure had been dark brown, she would at least have a little more justification. But it was completely jet black.

Which is hilarious, because even among blacks, the darkness issue is a sharp line of bigotry - the darker, the more you are looked down upon by the "high-color" blacks. Seriously.

A nanocerebric moron who is obviously in a position far above her I.Q.’s qualifications.

I have had it with arrogant racialists like this jerk Councilwoman.

Maybe she should ring Al “Sharpie” Sharpton, or Al the Liar to his close friends and “Reverend” Jackson to give the kid a sharp lecture.

I’m failing to see how a quilt can offend anyone.

_________________________________________________________

While Hodge was an a$$ for the way she responded, what would you expect? Some Teacher should have stopped what what was done and explained how it could be perceived by some as offensive. I can see it easily and although Hodge was boorish in her response she was right in pointing out the perceived diminuation of the “black” in the depiction. “We were black but now we have knowledge and thus are no longer black but have turned gold”. That is what black people will see, and I don’t blame them for seeing this.

I realize that this is not what was meant but it is what will be seen.

A stupid teacher allowed this to happen, its a shame. Hodge was hurt, the kids were hurt and now there are feelings inflamed all over the community just because of the teacher failing to see the mistake.

The nasty hag (councilwoman Hodges) claims to lead a non-profit CHRISTIAN organization (501-C) yet act in this manner towards innocent kids? she needs to be called out on this one badly.

I'm going to guess that a detailed investigation of her 501c will show it's mostly a jobs program for relatives and friends.

I’d say the students learned a valuable lesson - one that will come back to bite Ms Hodge (or one of her ‘people’) in the butt.

You forgot about the black guy being eaten by sharks. Sharks that “know” to lurk under that bridge because of the millions and millions of blacks lured to their deaths at that very spot over the last half millenia.

“What are the little black figures on the right side?”

When I zoom in, it appears to be the stitched on signature of the kid who made that panel.

They did, but the school system will indoctrinate it right out of most of them. They will be taught to never trust their own common sense, political correctness will teach them to deliberately put themselves in harm’s way.

some people are offended at just being alive. The best thing to do is ignor them and continue about ypur business. There is no winning. Should you inneract with them, you are offending them. Should you ignore them, you are offending them.

I suppose the quilt gift should go under the heading,"No good deed goes unpunished". The instructor should have told the children,"There are nasty people in the world, but most of the world is made up of decent people. Just ignore and avoid those like her."

Where's the anti-bully crowd? This pathetic excuse for a human being drove a student to tears with her race card rant. In a just society, this creature would be shamed into leaving town.

Kids are not born racist, they have have to be trained to be.

The professional offended Hodge is doing a bang up job at it, on the city payroll to boot.
