Dozens of air shows cancelled after military jets grounded due to sequester

Dozens of air shows that draw tens of thousands of people and generate millions of dollars for local economies have been cancelled this year after the military grounded its jet and demonstration teams because of automatic federal budget cuts.

For years, the biggest draws at air shows have been the military's two elite jet teams, the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels and the U.S. Air Force's Thunderbirds, and their intricate stunts. The armed services also have provided F-16, F-18 and F-22 fighter jets and the U.S. Army Parachute Team, known as the Golden Knights. All the teams were grounded as of April 1 to save money, and the military also dramatically curtailed its help with ground displays of various aircraft.

Not “due to sequester”, but “due to the president’s choice to make any budget cuts hurt the people as much as possible”.

The National Museum of the United States Air Force (official name but commonly known as the Air Force Museum) at Wright-Patterson AFB is still open. However, there are two hangers, the “Presidential Aircraft” and “Experimental Aircraft” hangers, that have been closed. These hangers are inside the Area-B section of WPAFB and only accessible to the public via a reserved bus ride from the main Museum. Support for these bus rides have been cut due to the sequester.

Ground Air Force I until the air shows resume. This is the worst First Family in history for wasting tax payer dollars on themselves.

What a cool museum. I visited over 20 years ago. At the time there was an F-4 cockpit you could climb into, and an SR-71 on display.

More of this “sequester” Mickey Mouse.

Obama always seems to find money for his Moslem pals, and always seems to run out whenever Americans want or need it.

Clearly, His Royal Highness the Holy Islamic Shah of the United States is full of it - and himself.

As long as the Obama administration still has money to advertise in Mexico

"Free Food Stamps For Illegals"

I know the government is still on solid financial ground and there is no need to be concerned.

Well the Chino CA Airshow will go on this weekend. Normally a F16 closes the show, I'll miss all the car alarms going off when it buzzes my Neighborhood. But this show is all about old War-birds, Mustangs, Corsairs, P-38’s, Mitchell's and so on. It's great as the flight pattern puts them right over the house.

“Hurts only patriots and grounds the best pilots in the nation.”

Yes, the 47% only care about delays in their government checks.

If its been 20 years, you wouldn’t recognize it. I live in the area, and only go there every year or two. Every time I go, there seems to be something new. It truly is an amazing place.

Seafair is a big deal in Seattle every year (Torchlight Parade; hydro races on Lake Washington, touring Navy & Coast Guard ships, Blue Angels practices & show, etc.). IIRC it’s only the 2nd time in many, many years, the Blue Angels won’t be performing this year (which is a huge disappoint for many of us). Heard on the local news this a.m. that the Seafair Committee is giving $80k to a group out of California to perform). While I’ll watch them, it won’t be the same.

I’ve looked forward to and watched the Blue Angels every year. The site of them and the sound never gets old - I always get goose bumps.

As I mentioned, there are usually several Navy & Coast Guard ships that come into the Seattle waterfront and allow tours. While there are several military installations not far from Seattle (Everett, Bremerton, Fort Lewis & McCord, etc.), this gives the civilians an opportunity to board and see the ships and interact with our great military men and women. We don’t have the opportunity for doing so this year either. Heard on local TV this a.m., that a Canadian ship will be in port. While I respect the Canadian military and people, this isn’t right. Happy to have them here, but I want the US MILITARY here, too.

If I had a choice between spending money on ships coming into port for Seafair or the money being spent on our troops, no question - I support the latter. But, I don’t think it’s necessarily an either or situation, it’s Obummer being an a**hat again - let’s let the peons feel the hurt of the Sequestration.
