And then, after the cops got tired of trampling the Constitution, a citizen ID'ed him and the cops showed up to burn yet more ammo without killing the guy.
Those are the facts, as I've heard them.
You could leave out the entire episode of forcing people out of their homes at gunpoint without a warrent, and the thing would have gone down the same.

Everything you say matches what I’ve seen as well. However, the WSJ/NYT opinion poll, released conveniently today, says 68% of Americans approve Obama’s handling of the Boston bombing. Now I never saw that he did anything other than mouth platitudes and send in Holder to gather evidence and shut up the perp.
So, who put the bullet holes into the older brother? And, are you suggesting the younger brother would have run over his older brother had not the cops showed up? Okay. Go with that.
And then, after the cops got tired of trampling the Constitution, a citizen ID'ed him and the cops showed up to burn yet more ammo without killing the guy.
The citizen phoned in to 911 that there was a man in his boat hiding. I doubt the citizen obtained identification of the person hiding in his boat. I cannot explain the circumstances around the shooting at the boat, as I wasn't there. These cops were obviously not from Texas. Bottom line is the citizen did not take the perp into custody. Every day in America citizens call 911 and alert police to perps, who are subsequently arrested. That doesn't mean the cops didn't do their job.
If they knew how badly he was wounded in advance perhaps they could have.
But the decision was based on what they knew at the time and the assumption that the killer could have blended with crowds and walked away. Hence the decision to shut down the subway and ask people to remain at home.
One guy took a video of people being forced out of their house. Most other people didn't report that happening to them or seeing it happening to other people. We don't know that it was anything more than one incident.

1) Who, all things considered, isn't a "statist" in one way or another? Even George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and Thomas Paine are "statists" to some angry libertarian somewhere.
2) Despising people isn't something you want to make a habit of. People who do can get really insufferable.
