Vice President Joe Biden's two sons and wife are getting by on $1.50 a day to bring attention to world hunger.

"I'm hungry. I'm very hungry," Hunter Biden told CNBC's Andrea Mitchell in an appearance with his brother Beau Biden to promote the Live Below the Line Campaign.

Nearly 1.5 billion people in the world live below the poverty line and are forced to subsist on the equivalent of $1.50 a day. Hunter Biden, chairman of the board of World Food Program USA, is living on $1.50 worth of food for five days. Beau and their mother, Jill, are participating for one day.

"I'm not as tough as my brother," joked Beau, who is Delaware attorney general.

Many of those are pregnant women, who then give birth to children who already suffer the effects of malnutrition, he noted.

His group funds programs in countries such as Kenya, where many children walk long distances to school just because there is food there, he said. While there, they also get an education that will help them climb out of the cycle of poverty.

$1:50 Heck, I can do that “dieting”. Two litres soup, couple slices dry toast. 3 glasses of wine.

Hey, not hard to do if you can go and catch a dozen fish with a $.99 pack of soft plastic lures that lasts for several months. I caught enough crappie in April to last us most of the summer and used about half a dozen jigs.

Throw in a few taters and lettuce salad makings and we can live on $1.50 per day easily. Just waiting for the tomatoes, turnips, cucumbers and other veggies. $.75 of leaf lettuce and turnips is enough for several seasons.

His group funds programs in countries such as Kenya

So Biden, the VP of the US, shows alliance to other countries such as Kenya - while the administration he is apart of - are taxing Americans into poverty and other Americans to stay in poverty. And with business' either closing or down sizing because of obamacare that they pushed through w/o reading it AND against the will of the people.

UnAmerican is the only way to describe this administration and all it's ilk.

I don’t claim to know economics, but I believe the standard of living is different in these 3rd World countries, so $1.50 might actually go farther than here. As for this country, the social programs — and charity spirit of the Americans — make $1.50 a day a moot point.

People like Biden have an amazingly simplistic view of poverty, for which there is no silver bullet because it has different causes — bad luck, mental illness, corrupt governments, poor distribution, etc. Unfortunately, some things like war, hunger, cancer aren’t easily curable or resolved.

There might be a childish appeal behind quiltmaking, pink ribbons, OWS demonstrations, but ultimately they’re all kind of sad.

$1.50 per person or for all three? I too can eat reasonably on $1.50 for myself, by, as you say, cooking. Oatmeal, soups, stews, etc. In fact I often do, though because I like my home-made soups, not because I have to (anymore.)

"Hunter Biden, chairman of the board of World Food Program USA, is living on $1.50 worth of food for five days. Beau and their mother, Jill, are participating for one day."

One day? Fasting for one or two days a week ($0) has its advocates for both weight control and longevity.

I doubt most people subsisting on $1.50 have the same food prices as people who live in developed countries.

It’s always a laugh riot to watch rich people slumming.

As if it meant anything at all.

I don't believe the entire Biden Family knows what it means to ‘struggle’

Biden raised his family off taxpayers money...they need to struggle for awhile...

Doesn’t Obammy’s cousin/brother live on $20 a month? And that’s EVERYTHING , not just a food budget..

Wow. I eat from very nearly twice that much money spent here, in the USA, while that amount goes much further in poor countries. Biden and family are out of touch with America.

Yup where they got them fancy perfectly round burgers.

It was a rough stretch and there wasn’t much point in being miserable over it. Looking back, its a fond memory.

YEP! In the Philippines McDonalds is BIGTIME UPSCALE ... they serve mostly fried chicken and spaghetti dishes ,,, not so many burgers (and when they do they have banana catsup on them.. YECH!)... The “poor” people have to make do with fish caught fresh that day ,, steamed rice , local veggies and the best mango’s on earth for desert ... sucks to be poor.
