ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. An Arapahoe County judge is expected to set an execution date for one of Colorados death row inmates at a hearing Wednesday morning. But that may not be the final chapter for Nathan Dunlap, especially with political agendas on the death penalty being pushed in high places.
Dunlap has been on death row for 20 years, and recently lost his final appeal. In 1996, he was convicted of killing four people inside an Aurora Chuck E. Cheese restaurant.
Dunlap was 19 years old when he walked into the Aurora restaurant where he had been fired and killed four of his former co-workers. The victims were restaurant manager Margaret Kohlberg, 50, Sylvia Crowell, 19, Ben Grant and Colleen OConnor, both 17.
In his failed appeal, Dunlaps attorneys argued their client had been represented in his murder trial by incompetent lawyers who failed to introduce evidence that may have proved Dunlaps mental instability.
The execution date is expected to be set for this summer, but theres a chance Governor John Hickenlooper will commute the death sentence, instead giving Dunlap life without parole.
He (Hickenlooper) is ambivalent about it now, and hes being pushed by several people to commute the death penalty of Nathan Dunlap, criminal defense lawyer Dan Recht said. He may well do that.
If he does, Recht said, it might send the state of Colorado mixed messages, especially with the looming trial of accused Aurora theater shooter, James Holmes. Prosecutors have stated intentions to will seek the death penalty for Holmes, as well.

Chickenpooper strikes again! Colorado needs to get rid of Denver!
Not executing capital felons is disgusting criminal rights extremism
Gun Control Nazi types like Sittenpooper are usually the worst criminal rights extremists
Ain't that the truth! Like the left wherever they may be, they screw up a good thing for the rest of us. I blame the likes of Karl Rove, Hugh Hewitt, Michael Medved, and former Colorado Republican party chairman Dick Wadhams (and others) partially for this mess we are in. If they hadn't gone around badmouthing Tom Tancredo in 2010 we might not be saddled with this monstrosity today.
There will be protest of Colorado’s unconstitutional gun control laws in July, that will use acts of open civil disobedience. A +15 round magazine swap will be held in open defiance of that illegitimate law after it goes into effect. We are going to stand our ground, but we are never going to accept tyrannical gun control, or any other tyranny for that matter. We are at the point where we must work outside the broken system to some degree. We are going to push the tyrants to the limit. They will be forced to escalate things to an entirely new level, or either leave us alone. Their laws means nothing to me, just like the Constitution means nothing to them. We will have freedom in the end, or it will have to be violently taken from us. We will fight tooth and nail against these tyrants. I will never comply. This out of control government isn’t going to make me run from my state, and this is as good a place as any to fight the tyranny that has taken over our federal government, and many of our state governments.
Gun grabbers pretend to be tough when they are soft on crime.
Every country that has taken away gun rights has lightened sentencing for criminals.
Can you spell “gutless wimp”?
H I C K E......................
There is no rehab. Execution means zero recidivism. Kill them all on DR.
It’s LONG past time that Governors are stripped of the power to commute death sentences to life.
These scum simply play the system for a few decades until some idiot lib takes office and gives them life.
That is to say he'll commute it if he can think of a way to spin his act as being *really* tough on crime. If his mother/wife/daughter was one of the four that was murdered he would have *personally* strangled to killer. That is if there's an ounce of genuine manhood in him.Colorado freepers...can you confirm that he has at least an ounce of manhood in him?
