Although the problem surely goes deeper on the spiritual level, on a purely secular level, the problem is indeed nationalism.
Stalin pushed national socialism -- socialism in one country -- just as Hitler did.
The hard left today is really descended from Trotsky -- he pushed for international socialism, or revolution everywhere. This why Stalin and Totsky did not get along.
All socialists want to destroy the family.
In addition, International socialists want to destroy national identity and the concept of the nation state.
If humans have no common bonds (family or community) then they are more easily ruled. We see this being played out daily on the secular level.
But, as noted, this is a reflection of a deeper spiritual struggle in which the Left is at war with God.

The “hard Left” was never on board with the American Idea, which is to allow the realization of personal ambitions and letting the incentives for growth proceed with all deliberate speed.
Piracy is not to be rewarded, but initiative should be encouraged and promoted in most every form it takes. When the internal moral compass is set to a true north, almost always the right course may be followed.
Where people get into trouble, is when they discard or ignore this internal moral compass. And the “hard Left” has discarded any and all moral compasses that have existed for ages and are based on the hard-won wisdom of history.

The supposed hard right is at war with America as well. Considering many in it can’t ‘moderate’ to leftist positions on immigration, guns, abortion and homosexuality fast enough. A trip through ANY site considered ‘hard right’ will display that in technicolor.
THAT is our biggest problem. The left is as it has always been. Now they are simply open about it. But the Right has become something else entirely. We need to address and deal with that. Because calling a duck a duck (the left) isn’t gonna solve anything.
Once they broke the family, they destroyed to the entire notion of privacy (in the home as well as in business) and self-reliance — by design, to encourage communism, a system in which a small few at the top get reap the most, from the most people, most of the time.
Children cannot raise themselves. Single parents as a statistical reality cannot raise healthy, productive citizens. To have freedom, we must have an unbreakable ethic of heterosexual lifetime marriage, of which only a very few would attempt to live without. We did have that for the first 200 years, during which our nation rose to be a beacon of opportunity and innovation.
