Okay, so if youre following the mainstream media news headlines with respect to this convention, youd probably expect to see a clash or a major confrontation between gun rights advocates/NRA members and gun control activists, descriptions that make it appear as if this is some kind of political warzone.
For example, on Friday MSNBC ran a story entitled, NRA: Protesters plan a showdown at the gun show. The opening sentence read, Gun control advocates plan to clash with members of the National Rifle Association this weekend
Likewise, the Houston Chronicle published this article yesterday, Protesters set sights on NRA meeting Houston. According to their report, an alliance of gun-control groups and advocates is planning to press its case at the gun worlds ground zero: The annual National Rifle Association.
So, whats the truth? Are there hordes of protesters here at the NRA convention? A coalition or an alliance of gun control advocates present? Is there a major showdown? An epic clash between the two sides?
No. Not even close.
From what Ive witnessed around the premises and from what Ive heard from fellow journalists and the police officers patrolling the area, there were roughly 5 protesters here on Friday and about 10 protesters here on Saturday.
Now, does that mean they wont show up by the busloads later today or that they wont descend on the convention tomorrow by the thousands?
No. But it seems highly unlikely.

There was a good reason that you never heard of an “Occupy Houston” last year. The HPD doesn’t go for that sort of thing. If you want to express your infantile ‘60s child, you drive a couple of hours to get to Austin, where you blend right in with the potheads and malcontents there.
After all, those gun nuts are ALL CRAZY, RIGHT?
I’m sure that they KNOW the NRA nut bags probably have snipers positioned all over the place just waiting to “take out” some righteous protesters. After all, it is the NRA. And we all know how they promote killing kids and other “innocent” people. (sarc off!)
While Obama is in Mexico blaming American guns for their trouble.
I hope that Obama keeps blaming America first. Everyday another 10,000 voters are sobering up.
They were hanging out with pETA protesting leather at a biker bash.
It's anti American to not own a gun of some kind. If every household, every business and every school had guns, crime would be wiped out almost overnight.
More or less, Cindy of Nashville.
My father put it this way when I was a kid: "There are three kinds of people: those who learn from other people's mistakes; those who learn from their own mistakes, and those who never learn."
A disproportionate number of criminals fall into the last category, and new criminals "enter the market," as it were, every day, so I have a hunch it would take awhile for crime rates to decline noticeably; all the same, turning more citizens into armed citizens is a wholly worthy idea. Every time a crime is stopped, a crime is stopped, whereas every time a criminal is stopped, many future crimes are prevented.
Most of all, we need more women to keep and bear arms on a daily basis: they're more likely to be selected as victims, and can make the single greatest difference.
Don't forget the other half living there: Communists and homosexuals.
