I've said the same thing here, a few times.

Keynes' famous remark about the predictably bad effects of his stimulus spending in the long run was that it didn't matter because "in the long run, we're all dead".

Well, if a family is not part of your scenario, you will predictably have something of a present, as opposed to a future, orientation.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

--and those who raise kids never say that because their "we" is not just them but rather the entire human race. 

It's a mindset that's basically impossible to share.  Like the wife & I were telling the embarrassed mother of a crying toddler on the plane, "to other passengers who're parents no explanation was necessary, and to the non-parents no explanation was possible".

This is also why the state must favor only normal families; it's because they not only provide for a continuing population but their attitude represents the foundation for sustainable nation.
