You are confused because there were two famous protests in Cairo. The "Tahrir Square" protest of 2011 that you are thinking of was the Arab Spring protest that led to Mubarak's downfall, and that protest went on for a very long time.
The protest to which Tigers Eye is referring is the protest surrounding the US embassy which occured on September 11, 2012. It was this protest, and others the same day around the globe EXCEPT not in Benghazi- which provided the diversion for the attack on the state department and CA facilities in Benghazi. It was reporting on this 2012 Cairo protest which involved the utube video story.
