Not much detail about what the change in the laws will mean.

Not much. Very small changes this session including a shortened CHL class and a few other things. All pro-Constitution.
Campus carry is still up in the air in the Senate, and no chance of open carry this session.

Maybe they can drop the requirement to qualify with both a revolver and a semi auto if you wish to carry both.

Will save expensive hard to get ammo?!?!and will not include time on the shooting range or the range proficiency exam.
That would be a yes to your question.

Sorry, I found it. You are correct. I word searched for “revolver” in the laws and did not see it. Searching for “category” to me to it.
That should be removed, in my opinion as well.

Maybe they can drop the requirement to qualify with both a revolver and a semi auto if you wish to carry both. Ummm... IIRC when I was licensed if you qualed with revolver you were licensed for revolver - if you qualed with pistol you were licensed for either.

Maybe they can drop the requirement to qualify with both a revolver and a semi auto if you wish to carry both. That's not the current requirement. It is that 1. If you qualify with a revolver you may only carry a revolver; 2. If you qualify with a s/a you may carry a s/a and/or a revolver.

So I stand (partially) corrected. So if you qualify with a revolver, you must wait for your renewal class to qualify with a semi-auto before you can carry.
To me that's still a little too nanny-state to me. You are being taught when and when not to use deadly force, you are being taught the moral and legal consequences of carrying concealed, you are being taught where you can and cannot carry, and you must pass a 250 round course of fire.
After all that, does it really matter if you qualified with a revolver and two years later you decide to buy a Glock?
You could qualify with a Ruger Mark III and be licensed to carry a .50AE Desert Eagle, but if you qualify with a Smith & Wesson Model 19 .357 Magnum you can't carry a Ruger SR22P?

“Maybe they can drop the requirement to qualify with both a revolver and a semi auto if you wish to carry both.”
This is not the case now!!!
If you qualify with a pistol (semi-auto), you do not have to qualify with a revolver. If you qualify with a revolver, then you are restricted to revolvers and must qualify with a pistol to remove the restriction.

I guess the thinking is that any fool can run a revolver but it takes extra skill to run a pistol.
Be that as it may, the best strategy for qualifying is to use a pistol, even if you have to borrow or rent one.

You're on point with the revolver and pistol category thing...
Like most laws they didn't think it through - for the case of a wheelgun "upgrade" to pistol there could be a practical test to verify proficiency, which is probably at the root of the category thing; anybody can shoot a revolver but to be safe with a pistol you have to know the weapon.
Which of course breaks down in practical use because as a 1911 shooter and that's what I carry, I would need some instruction to be safe with any pistol that uses a decocker, for instance. Perhaps vice-versa for others. You can see how that (a proficiency test prior to re-issuance) would be complicated.
On the caliber, you must qualify with a centerfire - I think 9mm was the smallest round you could use - so you would not qual with a MkIII and then carry an Eagle (even if you could conceal one!).

I looked it up. The minimum is .32

Oh, and while I'm playing 'remove the foot from the mouth,' the course of fire is 50 rounds, 250 points scored on a standard B-27 silhouette.

Maybe they can drop the requirement to qualify with both a revolver and a semi auto if you wish to carry both.Simply qualify with a pistol and you can carry a revolver legally. IF you qualify with a revolver you are restrcited to a revolver but no restriction if you qualify with a pistol.

You could qualify with a Ruger Mark III and be licensed to carry a .50AE Desert Eagle,No, you can't qualify with a handgun which shoots rimfire ammo. Centerfire only. Once qualified, you can carry a .22 rimfire if you wish (but it is not recommended to pi$$ off a potential victim).
