Ohio --(Ammoland.com)- WHIO (CBS Dayton) is reporting that churches across the country and here in the Miami Valley are responding to violence by putting their trust in God and taking security into their own hands.
From the article:
At Phillips Temple in Trotwood, armed security guards routinely patrol the church grounds and stand watch inside during services and events. It is a visible presence that Pastor James Washington considers a necessary deterrent from evil.
The Bible calls it lawlessness. Its just a complete disregard for whats right and wrong and whats legal and whats not, said Washington.
Police cruisers surrounded an Ashtabula, Ohio church on Easter Sunday after a man walked in with a handgun and fatally shot his own father. There were 135 deadly force incidents at places of worship across the country in 2012. Four people have died in 11 shooting incidents so far this year.
Lets get people trained and certified so that if we have a serious incident here, we can respond immediately, said Mark Stusek, a church security consultant.
Stusek, aretired Dayton Police Officer, founded Glory-2-God Solutions, designing special classes for pastors and church leaders. The students not only qualify for their concealed carry licenses, but they become Certified Security Officers trained on how and when to engage an active shooter.
Jon Faulkner of Beavercreek said, People are trying to evaluate circumstances they find themselves day in and day out at work, church, even their home, the mall and trying to figure out if something went wrong, what would I do?
Toby Hoover, who often appears to be a one-woman show at the Ohio Coalition Against Gun Violence, is quoted as saying that having trained, armed church-goers provides nothing but a false sense of security. (Unfortunately, the reporter who recorded the quote apparently failed to ask Hoover if she thought it was a false sense of security that saved potentially hundreds of lives at New Life Church in Colorado.)
This isnt Hoovers first such attempt to insert herself into discussions over the measures places of worship should take to protect their members.
In 2009, Hoover, who the evidence proves has no qualms about mixing religion and political advocacy, at least when it comes to arguing against the right to bear arms for self-defense, issued a press release condemning an Ohio pastor simply for announcing that his church was going to hold a forum to address such topics as whether the Old Testament and New Testament teach people that they have the right to keep and bear arms, what Jesus says about bearing arms, and whether American citizens would be safer being disarmed.
Clearly Hoover is not only opposed to the rights of Ohioans to exercise their Second Amendment rights in a place of worship, but also their First Amendment rights.
If there had been a Jerusalem Coalition Against Sword Violence, I suspect a press release issued in response to Jesus instruction would have read a lot like something Toby Hoover wrote. In fact, one could likely have to do little more than substitute the word sword the sidearm of Jesus day, which he clearly advocated carrying with firearm or gun, the sidearm of today.
Let us step back in time for a moment, some 2000 years ago. As He was instructing His disciples on how to prepare for the aftermath of His crucifixion, the physician known as Luke quotes Jesus as saying Take your money and a travelers bag. And if you dont have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one! For the time has come for this prophecy about me to be fulfilled: He was counted among the rebels. Yes, everything written about me by the prophets will come true.
The disciples respond, saying Look, Lord, we have two swords among us. Jesus reply? Thats enough.
To hear Hoover tell it, though, Jesus was just wanting to give his disciples a false sense of security.

Statists insist that there be "separation of church and state" then insist that the state control church actions.
In my church(Fundemantal Independent KJV Bible Baptist) most of the deacons and ushers are armed.
I often let my mind wander during church services and wonder how many firearms are being carried by my fellow attendees. In Texas it is a common practice in every church I know of. The only way to prevent (or inhibit) concealed carry in Texas churches is for the church to post a legal sign specifically stating firearms are not allowed. I have never heard of any church posting such a sign.
I just have to be careful with all those side-hugs; gun on the right, hug on the right!
Once again, and with feeling this time, “An Armed Society is a Polite Society.”
The best way to meet the Lord is thru prayer.
The quicker way is to come to our church to do evil.
I often wonder, during the service, how I could overcome an armed nutjob entering from the back of the church. I need to get my CCL.
It would take a nutjob with a death wish to enter any church I know of! And by all means - get your CHL!
At my church (Tennessee) I know for a fact that there are quite a number of CCL and LEO’s that will be carrying during the services and we always have armed patrol when the church is being used. Just last night I worked armed patrol during the evening while the church was being used for a ladies Bible study.
There are a couple churches here near Newtown CT where parishoners CC in the pews, and the pastors have no objections.
My Church Independent Baptist also encourages CCW holders to carry in Church.
My church, in Ohio, has a couple of armed folks around at all times. My pastor, unfortunately, has not as yet come on board with the concept of allowing anyone to carry so mine is in my car during services. Not optimal.
It is not his call, the church is the members not the pastor. Seems he has a case of Nobama and forgets he serves the others not himself.
Plus concealed is the key word here, it is not his nor anyone else’s business.
Agree, but sadly, the decision was made to post the dreaded “gun free zone” sticker on the doors which makes it a legal issue. At least I believe it does.
As the muslim hordes begin to swell throughout the country, they will wantonly and savagely attack Christian churches and Jewish Synagogues as they do daily in other countries once they feel totally immune to any resistance or repercussion. We’ve all seen what they can do. That is one of the many reasons why 0bama and the Rat communists want to disarm us so that no defense can be made against them whatsoever. They will attempt to eradicate any form or indication of Christianity and Zionism off the face of U.S. soil. That is their ultimate goal. They want to unilaterally declare the U.S. a muslim state with the crescent moon flying above the Stars & Stripes and sharia law the law of the land. Thousands, if not millions, will die while the communists cheer them on. Meanwhile the low-intelligent, low-information voters just keep right on voting communist as long as the EBT cards get re-filled and the checks keep showing up.
One older lady after hugging me and touching my side arm just smiled and said I am so glad some one is armed.
Find another Church.
Schools, bars and courtrooms are a more serious infraction. But many bars that serve food you still can carry - but just in the food area. If children are allowed in, your weapon is allowed in. Lots of those places have the “no guns” signs and the applicable code for the bar section, but I ignore it if I am going to the restaurant area. And if they ask me to leave - I'll leave.
