WASHINGTON -- Five days before two bombs tore through crowds at the Boston Marathon, an intelligence report identified the finish line of the race as an "area of increased vulnerability" and warned Boston police that extremists may use "small scale bombings" to attack spectators and runners at the event.
The 18-page report was written by the Boston Regional Intelligence Center, a command center funded in part by the Department of Homeland Security that helps disseminate intelligence information to local police and first responders.
The "joint special event assessment" is dated April 10. It notes that at the time there was "no credible, specific information indicating an imminent threat" to the race. . .

Cut the fat and size of government and hire good people who aren’t just waiting for their retirement package to kick in and information like this might just make it to people who can actually use it before the terrorist attacks.
I have not read the report but I would bet that the homeland security bureaucrats gin up the usual canned threat report for every event. Of the 18 pages there is a paragraph about small explosive devices. The rest contains references to a whole gamut of potential threats such as release of chemical weapons, car bombs, rooftop snipers, TEA Party activists, falling asteriods and a radioactive fire-breathing Tyrannosaurus Rex.
What did they know and when did they know it.

Story here is that we paid a bunch of bureaucrats to tell us that a huge crowd squeezed into a confined area would be an inviting target for terrorist bombers.

This can’t be true.
We have been told the terrorist had plans to carry out their attack on July 4, and suddenly as if it was a “spontaneous” decision changed their mind just 2 days before the attack and decided to attack the Marathon.
Maybe the terrorist got the memo and decided to change their attack from the July 4th to the finish line of the Marathon.
Yea, that’s what happened.

Well, duh, my cat could have pointed out the finish line might be a target, along with any mall, sports game, Times Square, movie theater, plane, train, bus or any large gathering of people. That’s just a standard call.
So basically, the only difference between the Aug 2001 PDB and this is that in the case of the former, a Republican happened to be in the White House, prompting Hillary Clinton to hold up a newspaper headline on the Senate floor screaming that the President knew. Yet with the current case, the President happens to be a Democrat, so a different set of rules is in place. Is that a fair assessment of the political situation here?
Yeah, that’s pretty much it. Just like Watergate hearings pre-empted my mom’s soap opera for months and Benghazi is a media cricket farm.
They are also changing the story on the attack in Benghazi to make it appear as if the terrorist were aware days in advance that Stevens was going to be in Benghazi on Sept 11.
By changing the story that the terrorist knew Stevens was going to be there days in advance, they are now able to explain how the terrorist were able to plan in a few short days an attack against a particular person on a particular day at a particular location.
Until this change the attack could only be planned in advance if Hillary or Obama guaranteed Stevens was going to be there on that particular day.
