Conservatives Shy Away from Light Bulbs With Eco-Friendly Labels

Conservatives may be less likely to buy energy efficient light bulbs if they're packaged as environmentally friendly, new research suggests.

In one study, participants were given $2 to spend on a light bulb with a choice between a 50-cent incandescent bulb and a $1.50 compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulb. They were told the CFL bulb would last 9,000 more hours and reduce energy costs by 75 percent compared with the old-fashioned bulb.

Both liberal and conservative participants were more likely to choose the CFL bulb, the researchers found. But if the CFL bulb was marked with a sticker that said "Protect The Environment," those who identified as politically moderate or conservative shied away.

The debate is over. Global warming is a hoax. Can I now have my incandescent bulbs back? Please?

if the CFL bulb was marked with a sticker that said "Protect The Environment".....

.....then it was lying because they're filled with poisonous mercury.

So the conservative who recalled the stupidity of the product would be smart.

That's because eco friendly generally means "This product is overpriced crap".

I’ve been using the compact fluorescent bulbs for years because my office building has 14 foot ceilings, and I have to drag an eight foot ladder out every time I have to change a bulb. They do last a lot longer. but I don’t need the government telling me what kind of bulbs to use. I tend to use incandescent bulbs where changing them is not difficult.

I NEVER buy anything with an eco friendly label. I’m not supporting that junk.

Luckily there was plenty of warning so that a lifetime supply of inexpensive, reliable, safe, instant-on incandescent bulbs could be acquired.

I also avoid businesses who have given in to the envircommies. Anytime I notice a business touting some environmental benefit to their products, services, or operations I either call or drop them a note letting them know why I will no longer be a customer.

How can it be “ecologically friendly” when breaking one constitutes an ecological disaster?!?

That's at least two of us.

Also on my list not to buy is "fat free" or "sugar free". I have found both to be "taste free".

That’s the stuff I played with back in the 50s as a kid - - from broken thermometers.
I’m sure it’s gonna kill me off one of these years....

I like the LED for outdoor applications where they are expected to operate in the cold, they work better than CFLs, and last longer than regular bulbs.

I dropped Waste Management as my garbage picker upper when they started promoting how "green" they were and I discovered that I was paying for their "greenness" to the tune of $78 quarterly. I switched to a non green company at $50 per quarter and let W-M know why.

My first grade class passed around a puddle of it, much to our amusement. I think the teacher helped. :-)

The good old days.....

Now, dudes in Hazmat Suits would show up, and the school would be a Superfund site.
