Boston Public Schools officials have no idea how many of their 9,000-plus employees may have criminal records — a shocking revelation that has triggered a sweeping round of background checks that already has found nearly a dozen workers with rap sheets.

The school department has fired or placed on paid administrative leave 11 “support staff” employees, but officials refused to release their names, their positions, the schools where they worked and why they were flagged, citing their privacy rights. None was a full-time teacher, but the troubled staffers may include coaches, custodians, lunch monitors and paraprofessionals, officials said.

The 11 were recently flagged after a review panel began checking “non-convictions,” such as plea deals for violent crimes, drug offenses, breaking and entering, or misdemeanors.

Beyond the newly discovered bad actors, the school system also hasn’t kept records of how many people with rap sheets have been approved for hire by a criminal record review panel in the past, Deputy Superintendent Joe Shea said. So far, the department has rescreened roughly 3,000 workers — or about one-third of its staff.

However, the department’s crackdown comes as the state has weakened the reporting requirements under the state’s Criminal Offender Record Information law, making it harder for employers to identify felons seeking jobs.

Regarding BS convictions, all one has to do in Today's America is take a look at any state's Vehicle Code.

Much of the philosophy in making law today is ... "We need more laws to make more criminals."

Gee...and these are the geniuses who want background checks for every gun buyer in the USA. Clean up your public school staffs first, and then give us your sage advice.

yea my wife left there and I got her to move south.
We looked at the US census and fond St Johns county in north east FL perfect for us, republicans outnumber Dems and non party, it has St Augustine, hardly any crime, people working, people speak English etc and we just got up and moved.
When I was there my blood pressure, etc were all up, came down here and now I;m back to being healthy.

If I never see that state in my life I would die happy, actually anywhere in the north east, I hated it with a passion

Yeah, I’d love to go south. Preferably some place I can have over 10 acres. Maybe when I retire.
